Gas near Johnson Creek

Weather permitting, I'll be flying into JC from the west. I'll probably need gas near LaGrande or Baker or Pendleton. I'll want to top off before flying up to Johnson Creek. McCall and Council look like they would work. PIREPS on any of those places?
thanks,
tom

McCall is closest to JC but Arnold Aviation in Cascade usually has a better price.

 Go to AirNav web site and request fuel prices...it will give you some idea.

Baker City looks to have the good price. Could be they haven't had a new load in a while.

If flying in fom the west, I'd stop @ Council (U82) rather than gas @ McCall. I would call the number listed for Council first to make sure they have fuel. I'm told they can be unreliable.

Cascade (U70) would be my choice over McCall for fuel, because of price. Of course, if you need groceries, McCall is easy with the store being a short walk across the street from the FBO.

GAs

If you are planning on Council be sure to call first, I stopped there on the way to JC last year and got fuel but they were sold out on the way back.

Arnold Aviation is good folks. They have a loaner car if you need to get into town.

Council

One other thing, Council is down in a valley and you have to haul out of this valley to get over the hills ( aka mountains ) to get to Cascade or McCall. If it is hot down there ( ~3,000 ft elevation) the climb out is tedious.

I go to Cascade for fuel and McCall for groceries but I have borrowed the airport car at Cascade for a trip into town for stuff. From Cascade it's a short trip over the hills to Landmark strip and make a left into the canyon to JC. Not as scenic as the trip over from McCall but about the same time flying. :D

Backcountry Fuel Stop in Emmett (S78) is showing 5.00 100LL on 100LL.COM. You have to respect the name if nothing else. ;-)

BTW, if you haven't used 100LL.COM to check prices, give it a look.

I've used Emmett as a fuel stop when flying to the backcountry from NV and back. On the way, comparatively cheap and quick and easy.

Nice people also.

Nadine answered my email inquiry and confirmed they are at 5.00 but aren't sure about next week if they get another load of fuel.

Update on Emmett

Just received this update from Nadine @ Emmett:

"Hi Mark,

Just thought I'd let you know our fuel price just went up today to $5.10/gallon. Hope you can stop and say "Hi" when you go through. It's always nice to meet other pilots.

Nadine"

If you stop at Emmett for fuel, I would recommend the hamburgers at the cafe! Call ahead for hours, though. Sometimes they close early if there not busy. They also positioned an out house by the fuel pump.

Posted this in another thread, but for those of you coming from the south, Jackpot, NV (06U) has gas for $4.12/gal. They said the price would be good through next week.

U82 100LL

I sent an email to the airport manager at Council and got the following reply.

We are out of fuel at present. Check NOTAMS for U82. I will cancel the fuel unavailable as soon as we have it, or send another eMail. Fuel delivery should be this coming week.

Regards,

Dick Thompson,
Council Municipal / Clint Yates Field, U82.

We just got back from JC today.
Forget Council as they do not have gas as of yesterday.
Joseph, OR. is the best at $4.40 with Mcall at $5.60 and La Grande at $5.80.
Weather great with afternoon buildups and some evening excietment.
Lots of Morel mushrooms in the burn areas around JC. River is up and moving fast.
Fish are biting in Riordan Lake on flies and small spinners.
Have fun Idaho is at it's best after the fire. :D

Dave and Adam Riffle

I left JC sunday morning about 7:00 am light on fuel planning to head to McCall and fuel up. There was a lot of chatter on the radio about McCall and Cascade being fogged in as they are in the valley. The next fuel west was about 130 miles away and I would of had to go back to JC and wait for the fog to burn off. When I got to McCall the airport was clear but there was fog in the valley to the south east of the airport. Anyway, if you are going to need to leave in the early morning, fuel up before you go into JC as fog may be an issue when leaving.

Dave,
It was a pleasure to meet you and Adam and look forward to meeting up again.

I spent last weekend at Smiley Creek and my fuel report is;
KEUG $5.12
KBKE $5.64
U70 (Cascade) $5.28
S39 (Prineville) $5.15
I can't make JC this weekend, so you'll have great wx. :)
