Gaston's Fly-Outs

Hey all,

A couple years ago on my way home from a long week flying the Legend Cub to Florida and back I finally had a chance to stop by Gaston's White River Resort and spend a few nights. Well, It's finally time to go back and with it only being a couple hours there from Stearman (1K1) I figured I will want to go and explore the area some if the weather cooperates.

Does anybody have any must see places along the route (1K1-3M0) or anywhere around Shell Knob/Table Rock lake. I've been looking at a few of the private strips on the sectional and will probably try to get in contact with the owners before I head out that way. I just wanted to see if there were any other places nearby that are worth the trip.

I'll be in the Legend Cub again with small tires and don't really have any true backcountry experience so I'm just looking for any nice grass strips or any places I should go cruising low and slow around.

Thanks!
Chuck

Re: Gaston's Fly-Outs

There's Byrd's Adventure center down about an hour or so near Ft Smith. Also if you're going to be up around that way give these guys a call http://www.iflysummit.com/ I think they are trying to make NWA more "backcountry" friendly. It's really just a lot of grass strips out that way but they can tell you where they all are. If you are a bit more adventurous there are a lot of good islands and sandbars and such to play on further south that I can help you out with closer to Little Rock.

Chuck,

Come by 2H2 if you get a chance. There are several grass strips around. Some on the map and some not.

The RAF recently opened, or helped open, Trigger Gap airfield in NW Arkansas. Info is on their site. Looks like a cool spot but I haven't been there yet.

X 2 on Byrd's!
