Good Airport to Camp...

Hey guys, Leaving Monday for a trip up North. Looking for suggestions on a good airport to camp at in North Central Wyoming or South Central Montana. Going to fly up to Missoula and then over to Idaho. Want to break up the trip a little and fly a few hours each day.

Any suggestions?

Three Forks, uncontrolled, very short walk to town in case you don't fly with a bike #-o
Townsend also, curt car, pilot lounge etc.

West Yellowstone airport has a campground. Bozeman has a pilot shelter and you can camp.

Going to Missoula too, and planning to fly early Sunday June 17th to some backcountry strips in northern Idaho, you are welcome to join.

So I think the first night I'm going to fly in and camp at the Miracle Mile strip and fish for a couple days. It's a newly reopened BLM strip http://www.theraf.org/content/miracle-m ... y-briefing Then I'm thinking Yellowstone west (if the campground is open). Then on into Missoula on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

Reading the campground rules in Missoula "Alcoholic beverage consumption is prohibited in the camping area". WTF?

HA HA HA! Indeed, WTF,news to me, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not enforced. You could always stand just outside the "camping area" on the tie down ramp and chug one down, that would satisfy the letter of the law.

The camp site in W Yellow is for sure open, and probably below freezing this morning. Loaner bikes and a good trail into town there also, ask the FBO about it.

I think it was Chuck Yeager who said "Rules are for people to stupid to make their own" I look at no drinking, no guns as a request not a mandate. Put the alcohol in a cup and keep the gun out of site. These rules can probably be traced back to some drunk guys acting like a college kids at 3 AM. Everyone hates those people.
