It's been about 12 years but I landed at the Portsmouth Ohio regional airport. It was nice and had a restaurant on the field. I was flying from NW Iowa to Lynchburg VA and went by Hawks Nest and the New River Bridge.

I just flew from VA to North Dakota, with one of the stops in Davenport, IA for weather. Flying into the wind was not so fun, at one point we were at 38kt ground speed in our C-180, with 155 mph indicated.
Be ready for the west wind!!!!

Glad to see ya made it without the missiles and black helicopters coming after you in DC.
Did you get the XM operational?

Yes, the XM was awesome. I am hooked on it now--there goes another $30 a month.

Wow, that is some wind! What altitudes were you flying at? My poor 170 w/C-145 would be going backwards!!! I am planning on leaving at 0darkthirty to try and get over the smokies in the AM.

Our altitude was part of the problem, as we filed and the minimum altitude was 9000' for the section over the mts., so we were at 10k. I don't know how much lower we could have been at, because some places we were just about cloud level, and by the look of the clouds the downdrafts were not nice.
Have a good trip!!!

I've been watching the weather all week. Looks like there may be a break on Sat/Sun for a while. I'll have to review the charts again as I was planning on going over at nht 8500 msl...... hmmmmm. Stuck on a ship right now, any links to online sectionals out there that are user friendly?

Hawkeye, I'm not saying it is a good stop, but you are welcome at Graham Field (OH82), in eastern Ohio, north of Zanesville. Free room and board! (if you don't stay too long). Cheap gas near by. 2500 ft grass. (maybe grass by then).
Today there is 12 inches of snow. Today I drove a tractor up and down 700 feet of it trying to pack it down. Took the scout out on 29 inch air hawks and took off ok. I had a more or less exciting landing after several drag and goes. So, I took the tractor back out and drove some more.

Hey John!
Sounds like a great stop but I'm pretty sure little 6.00x6 tires won't fair very well.....even if I drag the tail for a while
Thanks for the offer!!
