Last week I received a GoPro Hero Sessions 4 for a gift. Excited about joining the video ranks of the "cool folks" I started setting up the camera.
Well, long story short several hours into the process I was clearly struggling to try and get the camera and the app to work. I just went and reviewed 92 comments on the app/camera and all but three of them were one star w/ plenty of negative language thrown up at GoPro. I was at least relieved it was not me. I also read that GoPro has some of the worst customer service around? The other reviews on other GoPro camera's read either you love it or hate it, or more specifically - I love it, when it works!
Thinking I will probably send this camera back. Suggestions on other options for compact aircraft mounted video ??
Thanks - Dave

Garmin VIRB. Easy to use and has internal GPS, too.

I bought one last summer and have had mixed results. It's size and cost are probably it's only attributes. The wifi is very weak/intermittent and the app interface jams a lot and sometimes the only way to reset the camera is to remove and replace the sd card. If it's mounted on a wingtip, turning off the strobes may help the wifi. It's a toy. You can do some fun things with it, just don't expect high quality images.

Looks great, now if I can only get the camera and app to work.

Just bought a Hero 5 because I wasn't happy with the video quality of my Garmin VIRB. I took the memory card out of the Garmin and put nit into the Hero 5. After reading up on how image stabilization works I used the recommended 2.7K/60 FPS setting. After exactly 14 seconds the camera locked up. The app did too. Only way to fix it was to remove battery and start over. I thought it was the app but then the camera did it when using just the camera to start the recording. Same exact issue when using the 4K setting. No issues when using 1080p or lesser video quality. Turns out it's the memory card. At 2.7K and 4K the card can't write fast enough so the whole deal says FU and locks up.
New super fast card showed up today and all works normal. So you must use the proper card.

I've been tickled with my Session 4 and the mount from Cloudbase Engineering (Thanks Mark!!!)
Go Pro's are notoriously finicky, but by far the most stable platform for what you get.
Here's one of my 96 degree takeoffs last week.
