Got the itch to build a plane... know of any kits for sale?

I have some favorite designs in mind starting with the Bear Hawk and the Highlander and Murphy Rebel and a bunch of others. I like the idea of working with aluminum wings and tube abd fabric fuselage, but I don't really have my mind set on that design as I kinda like the Rebel. Would like the option for floats too.

I am hoping to buy a kit that someone else lost interest in or maybe lost their medical and doesn't want to finish. I look at Barnstormers and TAP daily to see what's for sale. Thought I would see if any BCP members have any leads on a back country worthy STOL design.

You are looking at good designs but they vary in mission and complexity of skills and time required to complete. Define your mission for the aircraft first and narrow the search. Talk privately to a builder that has done one and dealt with the company then go fly one. Identify the skills, time and dedicated effort required for the build then go look in the mirror to see if you can find them. Some itches are much harder to reach than others and explains why so many kits go unfinished.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.

There was a Bearhawk on Barnstormers about a month ago but I see it is gone now, didn't figure it would last long at the asking price.

dirtstrip is offering some really good advice.

I'd check into this Murphy Elite Rebel. Good performance and lots of room!! Low-ball away!

Obx,
I have been contemplating selling my Rebel kit. The tail section is completed and one wing ready to close. I actually have the kit, another damaged Rebel with a Subaru engine and a set of Murphy's 1800 amphib floats. I won't sell the floats separate though unless both Rebel's are sold first. I have flown in a Rebel and was thoroughly impressed, unfortunately I have taken on too many projects and a health issue is making me rethink what I will get done and what will linger for years.
If interested send me a PM.
I am currently at Ft. Meade, MD and the kit/plane is in Minnesota.

Murphy Rebels are cool. They're about the only type I can think of that's a 3 place aircraft, in terms of weight and cockpit size.

This guy completed his last year, pretty good representation of how I'd want to set one up.

Cool. This guy has a killer, comprehensive weblog of his build.

WWhunter:

Exactly the lead I was looking for. Also interested in the amphib floats. I'll PM you.

Thanks to others for your replies.

Re: Got the itch to build a plane... know of any kits for sa

Ok, I plead ignorance. I sent the PM twice and both are still in my outbox. Anyone know what I need to do to send them so I can see them in my sent messages folder? Is it because WWhunter isn't accepting PMs? :?

Dirtstrip: Thanks for the advice. Airplanes to me are not like marriage where you need to make sure that the one you select will accommodate and satisfy til death do us part. I think of it more as dating and the more pretty girls you can have the better life is. I hope to have a hundred.

I am also pretty well set up as I own a hangar and its attached to my home so each night I spend several hours working on projects and I have considerable experience wth fabric and metal work.

They will remain in your outbox, editable by you, until the recipient opens them, at which point they are moved to Sent.

254mr is Ron Shannon's Rebel and is a very nice looking plane from what I have seen in his blog. Ron is a good one to talk to about the Rebel in regards to his construction and the different things he has done to the plane vs. the factory. He has a Jabiru engine in his and most people are against these higher revving engines in a 'bush' style plane. He seems to be happy with it.
Ron has posted on this site.....just don't mention politics.;)
