Grapevine AZ work party

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Grapevine AZ work party

The Arizona pilots association made a little history last weekend by reopening the grapevine strip at Roosevelt lake.
Not often the USFS changes their mind about a closed airstrip. For now it is still a restricted runway and will only be
available to group events with prior permission.
Maybe not "real" backcountry but it will be a good place to go fishing, quail hunting or just enjoying the outdoors camping.

Runway was overgrown with bushes and small trees, this is the "after" photo.

And the stories begin.

We had about 35 workers in the morning, here are most of the diehards that camped overnight.

Re: Grapevine AZ work party

Really glad to see the fine efforts of the Arizona Pilots Association get this airport back open. I worked out of there on the Armer Fire in 1994 and went back this fall for the Tanner fire. I was really disappointed to see it closed, especially since it was still in good condition. It's a nice strip in a great location. Well done!

Grape Vine is a great camping airport for just about anybody, I worked for many years to get it open but the FS new 3 words you can guess which ones. Give a equale amount of credt to the RAF, Mark spencer with the RAF has the muscle tohelp make it happen!! The APA are the slaves!! We also are opening Plesant Vally but shuld be called Yoing Internatiolal. Big work party at Young July 21st so come and help make it better.

Do you have the contact info of the person in charge of approving landing at grapevine?

Hello Mlewbel,
Start first with Mark Spencer of the APA/RAF. He can give you further details.
