I'll be camping at Gravelly valley tomorrow night. Feel free to stop by and bring your guns! 3 planes so far. Some camping and some just for the day.

Re: Gravelly Valley tomorrow March 3rd

might be able to get up there on the dawn patrol sunday.

I still have the ballet shoes on. How rough is it for little tires?

Re: Gravelly Valley tomorrow March 3rd

You will be fine with small tires. I have 8.00x6 tires and my friend will be flying his 170 up there with 6.00x6 tires. Also piperpainter will be flying up there with his Mooney so you have nothing to worry about.

Re: Gravelly Valley March 3-4 UPDATED WITH PICS

Looks like tons of fun. Now that I've seen some of these backcountry nasties in the flesh, it's fun to see them in the make believe internet. I'd be totally jealous if i found out Paco brought the G-Dec.

Here are my pics...great day of flying and you couldn't ask for better conditions besides the fog getting in there this morning. I poured in 12 gallons from Chevron this morning and I logged 3.6 on the hobbs :D

Onto the pics

Not long after I parked you can see the fog

Was greeted with the best Huevos Rancheros ever!! Thanks NVFlyer!

There was a bald eagle flying around overhead during this shot checking me out. One of those spots that makes you just look around and realize how lucky you are.

Looks like you guys had fun! I am looking forward to the next time. We were in the valley playing around by the Sutter Buttes and Colusa area, still trying to figure out my camera. I think I got it now and will try to post a video soon.

Re: Gravelly Valley March 3-4 UPDATED WITH PICS

It truley was an awesome night. I mean the 6X5 accomadations might have been a little tight but we survived, and as Rob showed you with some amazing food! We of course had to go play and indeed we did. The picture Joey has of me on the gravel bar, yes I did a touch and go on it....for ya'll that know me this isn't unusual! :D Anyway, as the weather gets better we will probably have to do this more often so pay attention on Thurs/friday for Norcal/CA getaways! haha
Happy flying!

Re: Gravelly Valley March 3-4 UPDATED WITH PICS

Today was a blast! Great meeting all of you for the first time, it's nice to finally put a face to the BCP "handle"!! Left King city this morning around 6AM not being sure that anybody would be there when I arrived...even asked blindly a few times on the radio enroute if there was any BCP'ers in the area just in case you guys had already left  Luckily heard the "familiar" voices on the radio when I arrived...and the fog was only lightly obscuring the south part of the runway, of course I forgot to turn on my video camera for the arrival

Anyway, got a few pics in the process, some screenshots from the Contour cam:

Like tim55c and C180bill, looks like I missed out on the fun today! As if missing out on the beers, campfire and huevos rancheros weren't enough!

Managed to get over to meet up with the group around 3:30 in the afternoon, first time I'd landed at 1Q5. Pretty interesting approach landing south on 19.

Re: Gravelly Valley March 3-4 UPDATED WITH PICS

Here there Crew,

Sure enjoyed meeting up and camping out with you all. Thanks for posting the great pics.....get to re-live the fun times. I always enjoy camp cooking....and sharing the food makes it all the more fun....glad you all liked it, Thanks

Not sure if it got much press here....but the Backcountry Pilot group got some kudos from the RAF for jumping in and helping out at the Chicken Strip repair weekend.....they even used a picture of some oddball in front of his plane.

Looking forward to the next get-together!!
