Van Sant is a very cool place and there are actually a lot more Stearman there than what they have in the main hangar. Very active on the weekends when everyone is out playing.
Another great field just a little further north is Andover-Aeroflex. Beautiful location and a great tailwheel school on the field. They instruct in Stearman as well, but even a hour in the supercub with Damian is well worth it. Landing on the runway there (grass and asphalt parallel) is the next best thing to landing on the boat (relatively short runway with lakes on both ends)

To the south you should also check out Campbell Field, on the eastern shore of Va. Beautiful little grass field owned by Gordon Campbell - he hosts a small fly-in almost every weekend that the weather supports. He is enthusiastic about everyone that flys in but he seems to really enjoy the old taildraggers. He is planning his larger fall fly-in for Oct 21-22.

If nothing else try to make a soup on sunday sometime, I'd love to get an east coast BC Pilot gathering going. Hope to see you out there!
