Ground squirels

When last at Graham (U45) I noticed a lot of ground squirel damage to the strip. It was late in the summer and did not see a varmit one.

To do my part in strip upkeep I am volunteering to fly in and do some varmit shooting with my son in law. Does any one know when the best time of year is for this sort of hard work.

Would like to spend the night. Any other like minded folks out there.

Oh I am with ya on that one. Go check my web page out and take a look at our rig. Any time from now to June is the hot time to go. As it gets warm they come out of their holes and run wild. As it gets hot as in July they do not come out much during the day. Let me know when you are going I will meet you!!!!

Airplanes, varmit rifles, tents and beer... Life doesn't get much better than that. Let me know when and count me in!!!

There's a Forest Service rental cabin at the strip, and maybe a guard station, although they may be the same thing. I don't think it sees much use until after July 1st because of the bad road. Later in the summer some folks might not like varmint hunting on the strip...horses and such.

Got a silencer? He he.

Would the first weekend of June still be good. Better chance of good weather and still two weekend before the 2nd annual fly in. That would be the best for me.

Am looking forward to shooting my .17 rim fire. Oh, and the rock chucks are just starting to show their heads at my ranch. Check out your calendar and let us know. The nice thing about the middle of May is the lack of dust.

18-20 May! Pray for Global Warming!

Uh..... well, maybe that's not such a good idea, let's just pray for a warm weekend. I'd love to murder some of the little SOB's, even if they'll just triple their repro rate for the next six months. I haven't been in there since the fire, if it's greened up it should be interesting, although a little too early for mushrooms, I think.

At 5700+ ft, Graham will still be a bit chilly but I do not think it will be too bad. The squirel population is the most important thing. What is the squirel count at Owyhee.

Put me down for this one. Just been warming up the .17HMR keeping the bunnies off the landscaping!
I just got back on the Bushwheels in the S.C. and Mesowest is showing about 9-10 inces of snow so I'm planning on going up to Graham for the first time since November 9. Been holding off since I saw Matt was in there on skis recently but I think it's ready now. I'll see how many little tracks, if any ,are on the snow.
I wouldn't push your trip back anymore due to the fact that the IAA work party is scheduled for June 2 and they are planning some alternative means of extermination.
If none of that works I'm flying in Carl the greens keeper from Caddyshack (the good one from the 70's), "freeze varmit"!
Weatherby and Pine have been clear and dry for a couple of weeks by the way.

It seems like you guys might be going under-armed. I say bring out the 30-30's and 30-06's and blow them critters into the next century! Makes clean up easier too, nothing left but a fiew tufts of hair and a cloud of red mist.

I like a .17 cuz it leaves enough to satisfy the critters up the food chain. The dead flesh smell should be gone by the time the IAA work party shows up.

Is this condidered a BCP flyin. Probably not cus there will most likely be no tee shirts. Probably more NRA

Dudes,
Graham is not ready for wheels yet. Although Matt's ski tracks looked cool! I flew it, and rolled it, but no land it. The Mesowest site is still calling for 9-10 inches and that looked accurate. The biggest problem is the crust, it got fairly cold the last few days so the slush re-froze. Still quite a bit more snow in there than just around the corner at Weatherby.
