Gustavus

Finally had time when the weather cooperated for some flying. My initial plan was to fly up the taiya inlet up to the chilkoot channel, cross through the hills along the endicott river to glacier bay and cruse the glaciers. Sadly, clouds where clinging to the mountains and the glaciers were hidden

So I thought I would head down to Gustavus and see if gbflyer was around. No joy there either.

So had a great flight, view wasn't great, and none of the pictures worked out. but it was good to get out after two and a half months.

Gustavus does have a very nice airport, plan on getting back there and catching up with gbflyer

Re: Gustavus

Been watching your weather, you have not had any good!
I'm headed home the end of the month, might be headed back North around the 10th, thought I might stop by if you were going to be home!
Not sure if I'm flyin up or ridin a smoker.
If I fly up will try and stop by. Have a new traveling bird, should be able to make there from home!
How ya liken LA? You know Lower Alaska!!

Yeah, weather has been what I expected, flyable but marginal, definitely not scenic most days. There have been a few, but of course, always when I have been busy taking care of tourists falling off the boardwalk or feeding the bears. Living down this way is somewhat different that living in the vil, while still having quite a few similarities, the price of living here hasn't changed any.

Hope you fly up, would love to have you visit.
Chris

Re: Gustavus

Looks like we've got a nice one out there today. Enjoy, the three weeks of summer are now over.

Great weather when I can't fly. Picked up call again this morning at 6. Already sowed up a laceration and reduced and casted an ankle fracture.

Re: Gustavus

Been off and on over this side of the hill as well. Went up yesterday when it was almost dead flat on Atlin Lake, but got off the ground at the airport and was seeing +50 mph winds! Circled around and landed....

Looks like I may not get over to PAGY this summer but maybe next year. We're only here another couple of weeks before heading back south.

P>S> I gave up on ATT years ago. I use Consumer Cellular (they use ATT towers but seem to have better and MUCH - like less than half the cost - cheaper service). I dunno why the service is better if they are using the same towers but....

You never realize how good you have it with AT&T Wireless until your company switches to T-Mobile.

We are good here until a cruise ship slides by and 3000 passengers dump their happy snaps from the day. Then it's back to tin can and string.

Re: Gustavus

Take two!
Had a decent looking morning and everyone in the house is sick but me, so I figured I would give it another pass.

Heading up tyia inlet towards Haines.

A few glaciers along the way

Had a great visit with gb flyer, excellent lunch, a grand tour of Gustavus and got to check out his S-7.

Flew home the east side of glacier bay

And flew through the Endicott river valley

Even beat the wind and weather home, though it was pretty bumpy at the end.
