Had a little fun last week in Oregon

So Its been a long time since i'd been up to Medical springs to see the family well I called them up and after talking about a few options for places to fly into they made a comment about making a landing strip in the field above the house. When I was younger it was tall alfalfa but now it was just short grass and a fairy smooth, yet wavy piece of land. So I told them what I needed and they made me a landing strip. Here are some cool pictures (well if you ask me they are) of my adventure. Its a nice 1800-1900ft strip at 3600ft. Of course I didn't need but maybe 900-1000 of it. oh and I sure did spook a calf on the way out!

Left turnout after liftoff...look at em run!

Just lifting off

Right after liftoff, the Mooney gear is manual so it comes up quick and I do it fast so I lose the drag (please if you havn't flown a manual gear mooney don't comment on me raising my gear "Too early!")
Image
Just about to hit a mudd puddle on landing....eyyyy
Image
This was just the tail.... the front and under the wngs was ...bad !

My runway from a close hilltop, plane is parked in the upper right corner of the field.

Walking the strip with my brother after I landed. I needed to figure out a way to avoid that mudd puddle on takeoff!

Piperpainter, Cool pictures! You'd fit right in back here in Ohio. I just mowed my pasture runways last night for the first time this year. This video is last years action.

You know that once you start landing in cow pastures, you can't stop doing them?

Cool, Piperpainter! I think you need to get some mud flaps for your Mooney. :D

Re: Had a little fun last week in Oregon

Ya I think i've watched all you video's Patrol guy, I like em! I wish I could land in strips like that...someday when I get a plane with bigger tires! If only they didn't retract I bet I could put some good size tires on her! hahah. And Zane, well the area isn't to exciting if your not visiting family, but if i was there you could come over and land haha. I think the more exciting place to go would be Minam lodge or Red's horse ranch. I plan on going there soon. But you do have a great view of the Eagle mountains from our front porch. Oh, and maybe if you want to buy some fresh grass fed beef you can stop in too, I think the family would happily sell some! haha anyway good times for sure.

Piperpainter,

Our family ranch is in LaGrande, OR. Where is your family's? The terrain looks very similar, probably not too far away.

Its not far from La Grande thats for sure! Medical springs is about a 45 min drive from La grande and its S.S.W about 25NM from the La Grand airport. Of course this strip is brand new so its not on the charts and probably never will be! Is yours?

Re: Had a little fun last week in Oregon

Thanks for the reply, No ours isn't marked either. We have one pasture that is over 4000' long. Ranch is 3 miles right off the end of the runway at LaGrande, so the airport is very handy. I grew up in Moses Lake, WA and we flew in and out of our wheat and hay fields.

I think you should change the forum title to "A Lot of Fun" instead of a little fun...
