Re: Hail Damage

Mark landed at my home base today and dropped off a passenger. We shook hands and said hello while he idled. Didn't visit. Hope he checks in when he gets home. Lots of CBs in the province today.

Re: Hail Damage

Great to meet you, even though it was very fast. I bet if I was 10 min later I wouldn't have made it home. Listening to sigmets of funnel clouds east of Okotoks was reassuring also. Great thing is I now own a 182.

Still waiting on the quote for the insurance company. Will keep you updated

Re: Hail Damage

Been waiting for you to come clean on the purchase! Yee haw! You won't be sorry. Big difference between a 182 and 172. Nice step up!

Not sure who your broker is, but make sure they're getting you a quote from Catlin. I've been saving lots with them.

Great news! Congrats on the purchase.
As for insurance, Marsh got me the best price this year, by a fair amount. May be worth a try for you.

Re: Hail Damage

Marsh has quoted me $1232 for $70 K hull on the 182, no passenger seat coverage. I feel they are either penalizing me on the hail claim, or charging me extra because I have only a couple hrs 182 time. I have many 172 constant speed and retracts hrs plus multi engine time, i explained this to them, not sure it meant anything though.

I have never heard of Catlin before, I will call for a quote. I also have a request for a quote through Magnes copa insurance.

It's crazy how they treat different people differently. I have a new pilot friend that just bought a 210. He just got his PPL in a 172. Marsh have him a great rate and he only needed 5 landings and T/Os as a checkout. Seemed crazy to me. They also beat AON by $500 for me on my 180. I'm paying $1370 for 80k hull value on wheels and skis and have one accident. Just under 500TT.
I'm sure you'll find someone who treats you better. Just sucks that companies don't treat everyone the same. Hard to give recommendations when they do things like that.

When I bought my 180 two years ago, I had lotsa tailwheel Cessna time but nothing bigger than a 170.
Went with Bill White Insurance, they nicked me $1143 for $65K hull, and just required "a 180 checkout".
Got an hour of dual from a buddy in his 180, and a signoff.

182 coverage should be somewhat cheaper due to being nosewheel-equipped.
I don't understand "no passenger seat coverage". ??

Re: Hail Damage

Great info, thanks guys. I just renewed my insurance on an 8GCBC Scout, I only had it on storage and silver package last year but just before I pulled the trigger on Magnes I read this post and figured I'd get a price from Marsh, saved nearly $400 compared to Magnes, $1300 for $65k hull value on the gold package with 2mill liability.

Never thought to get another price because Magnes was always great with my Citabria. Strange that there could be that big of a difference hey.

Re: Hail Damage

I just got my Magnes quote back - $1404. $200 more than Marsh.....Not sure why COPA is endorsing Magnes. Magnes wanted $1000 for my 172 when Marsh was $620. May warrant sending an email to COPA

My AME also just got a quote from COPA and it was high. He ended up going with EAA and saved some. An email to COPA may be a great idea...

Happy to help save some cash. If you need help spending it, there's lots of us here on BCP that would love to help with that to! Haha.

Re: Hail Damage

Haha thanks, if I had any more help spending cash I think I'd end up living in a van at the airport! Hmmmm kinda tempting now I think about it!!!!!

Yep I agree should definitely send an email to COPA, not sure why they would want to recommend an insurer if they're consistently more expensive seems counterintuitive to keeping members.

Re: Hail Damage

Had a good discussion with Marsh yesterday about the premium. Even though they were the cheapest already at $1202, compared to Magnes at $1404 and Catlin at $1550, I asked if they could do anything more about the premium. Well, they lowered it to $1058. I cannot say enough good about Marsh. I emailed Bernard Gervais at Copa about this, he is passing my comments over to Magnes.

Re: Hail Damage

Oh they aren't too bad. Mpg is not too much different. My Citabria was probably slower then your 172, but my 180s mpg is better then the citabria. So I'm sure you won't be too far off.

Re: Hail Damage

I use falcon, with 65k value on my 182 it's running 850 a year. I'm low time and I am covered in Canada, Alaska, I said I would be landing off pavement at times too.

Re: Hail Damage

Just got my quote back for the damage. $120K Wow, I knew it was expensive, but didn't think that bad. $15K to reskin all control surfaces, 50K to reskin the wings . $25K to replace fuse top skins. $25K to repaint.

Wow! Got any pictures of the damage? I am curious what $120k in damage looks like.
