Happy to be here to fly another day.

Gosh darned moose got me this morning. Doing 110km/h, didn't even have time to hit the brakes. If it weren't for the 6" lift and bullet proof bumper I'd be wearing the moose and not posting here. Happened at 530 this morning. Think I'm gonna fly everywhere, no mooses up there.

Wow, glad you're safe. Money well spent on that bumper!

Dang, looks like the moose's day was ruined too....

Glad you didn't get hurt, and better to take one of those big puppies on with a pickup truck than with your airplane on a dark runway.

Nightmare stuff. They say it's always the one you don't see that hits you. Glad you're safe. I hope your insurance treats you well; it looks like time for a new ride.

So I guess it's not completely "moose proof" :o

Ouch!
Glad your OK.

True, till you take off or land #-o There are frequently moose hanging around the lower end of the runway here in White Mountain, though its still light here at 0530 =D> for now. But don't want to hit one with my bug-smasher, don't think it would hold up as well as your truck did.

Re: Happy to be here to fly another day.

And it's not just moose on the runways.

My Caravan and I had a "close encounter" with musk ox one foggy morning at Deering, a little village on the north side of the Seward Peninsula. Made a bootleg approach to runway 27 in pretty much zero-zero shit. I found the runway end, and was just flaring out when these black shapes materialized out of the mist. Shoved everything to the firewall and missed them by inches.

Then, stupid me, works around and lands on 36. When I come to where 18-36 and 9-27 cross, I figure I'll taxi down and herd me some musk ox off the runway with the noise and commotion from the PT-6. The only problem is, musk ox don't run. They just lowered their heads and stood their ground, and we sat there looking at each other. I was gonna push the issue, but figured the chief pilot might not like the "I wrecked my prop" phone call.

Getting a couple native kids on four-wheelers to play cowboy worked better.

Glad you at least walked away from it. What most people don't realize that don't live in moose country, is that when it is dark out, a black moose (whose eyes don't glow in the headlights like a deer's will) are tough to see. So will there be moose in the freezer this winter?
