Re: Has anyone ever considered their own weight?

if there is a sponsorship offer I will gladly say that I have done it on a steady liquid diet of RedBull.

Re: Has anyone ever considered their own weight?

Well I am glad to know that I'm not the only one! When the guys at work ask me why I am dieting, I tell them its so I can carry more stuff in my plane. All of them life long Alaskan's, but no other pilots and they all have a good laugh at that. I was starting to feel a little goofy, but hey I was being serious.

I can tell you what I use is http://www.livestrong.com/ You can create your own account, and just go to MyPlate and log all your calories. It's pretty dang straightforward. You want to lose "x" pounds per week, just eat less than "xxxx" calories per day. Mine is at 1595. If I want to eat more, I need to go mountain biking and burn off the surplus calories. You log your workout too, it automatically calculates your calories burned based on your weight.

If Jiff or Peter Pan had a Corsair, P-38, Albatross, etc. I would have already sent in my sponsorship application.

Re: Has anyone ever considered their own weight?

I'm going to come at this from the other angle. I weigh 140 soaking wet. My wife weighs 124. I struggle to keep weight on. When I was working I could get myself to 165 by eating three squares a day and snacks in between. I sometimes don't even get hungry until I start eating. Weird. I'm wired different I guess.

My beloved wife, weighed 172# 5 years ago. She said "That's enough! If I don't loose it now, I never will". It took her two years to loose the 50# and it's been off for about 14 months now. She spent a lifetime as a "chubby" kid. Hated it. Now she's a middle aged "hottie".

I got a special affection for folks who struggle with the weight, not only because of my wife but because of my own struggle to keep it on. It can be done though. It's not impossible. She used to need to stop halfway up a flight of stairs. Now she runs up. Makes a difference.

You can spend your money on oreos, or you can hire a workout trainer.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: Has anyone ever considered their own weight?

It's funny you say you weighed that in 7th grade. I've been 155-160 since probably 9th grade and I just turned 30. About 5 years ago I hit my highest of 165. When I was young I use to eat huge sundaes to try and gain weight. I'm far from the typical case. But between us two lightweights, it makes loading of a plane much easier.

I try and ride my bike to work twice a week, go hiking and canoeing on the weekends, and we just got a dog today from the shelter so there will be at least 2 good walks a day. People in my fam struggle with weight issues, so I understand its not easy to get back into the habit of being healthy.

I didn't particularly notice the hair color during my short view of her efforts (spot checks here and there). What I did notice was that her, well, lack of adipose tissue (fat) had been more than compensated for by store bought assets (surgical augmentation) at the Dr.'s "Be all you can be" store. And, she appeared to be a California style high maintenance female who appears likely to be a narcissist (loves her mirror and the person in it).

If you can't own it, dis it!

At this stage of my life (early 60s) she could take me in the marshal arts....she could 'out Man' me.
That is not an appealing/attractive/sexy thought!

Re: Has anyone ever considered their own weight?

As for calories, Medifast has me on 1600 calories a day... I have to figure calorie count which isn't that big of a deal.. Most days I'm under and at the end of the week after my weigh in I have something forbidden... I hover around 170 to 174 each week depending on how much exercise i do on the treadmill which is another weight loser... I do about 30 minutes a day at a fast walk.. no running just fast walking for 30 mins.. If I get in my 30 for every day of the week I'm at 170. some things I just won't give up though, much to my wifes displeasure... Love my beer so I drink the good imported stuff, which is even more calories.. 8)

By January 1st of this year I had hit an all time high of 350, size 46 pants were getting tight, I was watching my blood pressure go through the roof and the doc was growing concerned about diabetes. Not only was I concerned about my medical, but also being around to see my kids bring me some grandkids. February 1st I began my mission of increasing the useful load of anything I fly. As of this morning I am at 283 and size 40 pants can be removed without unbuttoning them....

Congratulations, that's quite an accomplishment. =D>

You're gonna love the Morphine :(

Sorry for the snipe, I know you're not too fond of me on the best of days, but this subject is too close to home for me to let go. If you have anyone in this world that you care about, don't do it. Put up with the lower climb rate and live to teach your grandkids how to fly.

Yes that's why I fly a 182 rather than a ultra-light. :D

Me too. It'll fly all the twinkies and soda pop I can slam the doors on.

Seriously, I'm 6'2" and 200 pounds when I'm in good shape. I'm getting to the age and stage in business where I don't get enough exercise and stress-eat so much that weight gains are something I've been noticing lately. I'm about ready to sell the business since the new attitude in Washington seems to be taking away from those that bust their ass to earn a little extra. I can stay in shape packing a lunchbox to a forty hour a week job.

"stress-eat" Yea, I know about that one. Every time I read my mail I have to run to the gas station for a "fix". Might have something to do with my robust physique :)

Lowflybye, That's quite an accomplishment and good luck.

Re: Has anyone ever considered their own weight?

The boys and I paid tribute to 9-11 by returning to the air. I realized that I have lost as much weight as the two of them weigh combined. The Maule just assumed I was flying solo again.
