Hasting Field on North Pender Island
A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.
Hasting Field is going through an ownership change and is currently closed. There is a good chance it will reopen after some items are cleared with the new owners. Here is a link to a video of the annual fly-in that was traditionally held on Earl Hastings birthday. I always had the honor of bringing over the Chilliwack corn for the party. This video was taken to honor Earl and the good times he let us have at his place. This is a very special place to many of us.

Wow! I've flown over north Pender in floatplanes at least 200 times and never noticed that strip, looks like fun!

What is that at about 11:34? Looks like Point Roberts.

That looks awesome! Wish there were more strips on the Gulf islands. Salt Spring used to have one on the south end.

We will keep everybody updated on Hastings field, hopefully with nothing but good news.
That is Point Roberts at 11:34. We fly directly over it on the way to Hastings from Boundary Bay airport and just south of the point direct from Langley.
There are still two strips on Salt Spring, one for sure mabey two on Saturna , one on Galiano, one on Hudson and mabey one on Mayne. Most are PPR but the goal for me is to find out the details for access.

Yesturday Yves and I went to Pender Island to meet his friend. Yves made a small video of the flight with his phone and put it on YouTube.
Hope you enjoy.

Didn't you just post a few weeks ago that Hastings Field was closed until further notice, pending resolution of some ownership issues? Is it open now, or was you going in there an insider sort of deal?
I noticed at about 1:00 into the video that the digital radio display was going crazy. Is that a video cam thing, like the wiggly prop effect, or was the radio misbehaving?

It was an insider deal to talk to the new potential owners as the deal is not completed yet. It seems there are complications that need to be sorted out so we have to wait and see.
The radio is fine, it is a phone camera vs. radio display blinking kind of thingy.
