Headed for the Idaho Backcountry 9/20-9/21

Going to take the family on an overnight trip tomorrow. Probably headed for Chamberlain tomorrow to stay overnight. Don't know where we will end up on Saturday; might go nowhere till we head home that evening.

Feel free to swing by and say hi. I'll likely be chasing kids around or doing other camping duties. This will be our first trip camping with kids in an airplane. Will be in a red and white plane.

I landed and camped at Chamberlain on 8/3 - 8/4. The strip was in good shape and camping was excellent. Have Fun :D :D

Whee,
I wasn't planning on heading out until Sat night but I may have to leave Oregon early due to weather moving in. If I get out there tomorrow, I'll stop by.

We were very excited for this little trip but I decided the plane is not ready so we are not going. Very bummed.

Flew some test flights with an aft cg (like it will be when headed out camping) and wasn't happy with how it handled. I need to take some measurements and fly it with a load some more.

Never fun to cancel a trip, but good on you whee for test flying with your camping load before heading out with your family, and for making sure all is as it should be.

Whee,
Sorry you didn't make it out, but better to get things sorted.

I had to fly all over Oregon Today, but I made it into John Day. Pick up my bro inlaw tomorrow morning in Boise then into the backcountry for the week

George, no AK Moose, but a pretty epic adventure. I'll report when I get back and recover from Idaho.

It really was a hard call to make. Been working all summer to get this thing ready and we thought it was there. We did go up today for a local family flight and that went really well. A buddy that flies for a regional wants to go out on Thursday so I'm hoping I can get things sorted out by then. I've been wanting to introduce him to this kind of flying for a long time.

We stopped in Chamberlin after the Big Creek Breakfast. It was my first time to land at Chamberlin. It is a nice place. Only had 1 hunter with pack-horses with a camp set up across from the cabins. The wind was about 5-6 kts out of the west. We debated a good while before we took off downhill to the east with the tail wind. It was enough tail wind to notice and affect the take-off roll. The trees and terrain to the east were much lower and helped us make the call.
Good on you for not going into the backcountry with a situation that did not feel right.

I was in the woods in search of the mighty wapiti when I heard a distant airplane flying and I remember the wind and weather on the ground wasn't that great. Judging by my location and your final destination I bet it was you I heard flying overhead! I wish I was in a position to see you to know for sure.

P.S. A friend of mine just opened up a Brewery/Pub in John Day called 1187 Brewery. They make some good beer next time your in town over there.
