Verizon 4g LTE uses SIM cards and is the next evolution of the GSM standards. But I'm wondering if it doesn't dial back down to the older GSM standard that these switches speak. I'm guessing not, probably due to different frequencies being used in the radio.

Maybe we'll be able to finally meet during that window?

Are you aware of any reason I couldn't swap out a Verizon SIM card? We're in the hills south of KLNR and really the only thing that has coverage is verizon. Once I do get my strip put in I'd want to be able to continue to use the device. It's too expensive to justify otherwise.

I'm pretty sure it won't work with a Verizon/Sprint/US Cellular SIM if you could even get one; I think those SIMs are only used for the 4G (data) service and CDMA is still used for the phone calls but I'm not sure. I took a chance on having service and it worked; you could always borrow mine and try it out. However, I think for the limited period of time you'll be around it's not worth the expense either; I'd probably go with Cam Guard and just plug it in for the 6 weeks and try to get in some flights to burn the moisture out whenever you can.

Maybe we will be able to meet up finally! I like to play around at 93C; practicing on the short grass runway (until the snow falls).

Yup generally. I wonder though if the OP is saying this will be frequent because of his out of country job? Hardware stores carry little timers that plug into the wall and are capable of turning on a heater or coffee pot for half an hour a day or increments of same. Seems simple enough.

Yup, you got it EB. In a few days my airport in Mexico will have been closed for a year. I'm probably going to bring the plane down in january anyway just because I'm sick enough of not being able to fly that I'm getting to the point of being willing to drive an hour to the next nearest airport. But if I don't I want to have a plan for keeping the engine in shape since I'm out of the Estados Unidos de América for 2-3 months at a time generally.

I'm no technophile, so I only know what I've read. From my understanding, you can't swap Verizon sim cards for GSM cards--again using my Lionel vs. American Flyer metaphor, they're similar but not similar enough. There's a bunch of stuff on the Internet about the differences--just Google "CDMA vs. GSM". I would prefer Verizon as well, since I've been a happy Verizon customer since they came into being--both of our phones and my iPad Mini are on Verizon.

Around here, T-mobile has pretty good coverage, and they use GSM. They have a couple of el cheapo plans, so for the limited purpose of the cellphone switch, it won't cost much to use them. ATT also uses GSM, but clients of mine who have used the ATT cellphone service around here haven't been very pleased--lots of dropped calls--so I haven't looked into using them for a cellphone switch.
