Help - C180 window latch

I have a window latch (pilot side) on my C180 that is worn out and needs to be replaced. Niagra Air Parts seems to be the cheapest source that I can find and they run $165 each. Being the extremely cheap individual that I am, I would like to find something that is a little cheaper.

Any thoughts on where I could find used latches or are there autoparts out there that someone has used that were good alternatives.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Re: Help

I needed to buy one last year and looked all over the net. Your right, Niagra Air Parts was/is the cheapest. But dang, they went up $20.00 within the last year  .

Which latch do you have? I can think of three different types off the top of my head

Rob, it is the kind that has the small button on it. You depress it and pull up to unlatch the window so it will swing open.

Hey Larry
I got some used short bugie cords, $8.95 including shipping.

Do you know Peter @ Skywagon City,(705.484.5667) he'llhave them, but he isn't afraid to charge. Sometimes good, somnetimesnot so good. He will have used ones. Kenny Faith in Sacramento (916.368.1832)will have a fair price on used ones.

\Good luck Gary

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Second on "Kenny Faith in Sacramento (916.368.1832)will have a fair price on used ones."
Price was more than fair (~$10 IIR).
However, I had to dig through several 4 foot shelves of many, many coffee cans full of the parts.
My stanchion is good, I only needed the "handle".
The Cessna bins had many, many variations; I had to test-fit each one.
Found one that fit the stanchion correctly and had the same appearance (and looked new), but the spur was to long. (many were too short). Was easy to "owner-fab" the spur shorter, works/looks great.

You may need to send him what you need to replace, and pay his people to sort through the piles.

BTW, The handles look like they came from some 1950's GM car.
(For me, I plan never to use the roll-pin to fasten the handle on, the original fell off while flying with the window open.)

HTH,

No Russ, I think this part. These are the type of latches I have in my 1958 182.
