Help with VideoPad (or another editor?)

I DL'd several video editing programs, VideoPad seems the "best" but I can't get it to add "clips" to the "sequence". I can get the first one added to the video but it won't add any more. I mark the "in" & "out" points but it won't add the second clip to the sequence! I read the tutorial & that's what it says to do. Anybody know what I should do? Any other editor that's easier to use??

Re: Help with VideoPad (or another editor?)

I chose CyberLink's Power Director 11. Video, audio and still image files can all be added to the editing line by dragging and dropping. The tools are not intuitive, but there are lots of videos on YouTube that show how to use the software. It wasn't free, but $49.95 was cheap compared to the cost of the camera and mounts and it makes the editing process sooooooo easy. Power Director won several online comparisons, most notably the "Top10Reviews" website comparison and the PC Magazine shootout. I'm working on a PC and that affects the software I choose.

Thanks Flyhound. I got the Power Director 12 & still have the same "issue"s, that is selecting a clip & getting it into the movie. I've been playing w/software since the 80's & I'll be damned if I can get started with this editing stuff. Frustrated but somewhat determined.

How do you select the start & end of a clip to drag/drop in the timeline?

Re: Help with VideoPad (or another editor?)

Start with the full featured editor selection when you open the program. Then clear the library (the upper left hand box) of all the canned media the program comes with. You can do this by right clicking on the files and then select "remove from library". Then load all of the media (video clips, still and audio) that you want to use into the library. Do this with the "import media" folder icon. Once you have loaded your clips into the project library you can drag it into the editing workspace on the bottom of the screen. You have to import the whole clip initially. To set the start and end points, select the "trim" tool from the pick list above the workspace. That will let you change the beginning and end of the clip. If you want to cut material out of the middle of the clip, then you have to "split" the clip using the "Split" function above the media workspace. Once split, you can adjust the start and end points just like for the whole clip. Then you can slide the remaining footage up next to it. If you want to merge a separate clip, you can either put it on the same video editing line, or on one of the duplicate lines below the first entry. Although the download didn't come with a manual, the manual is available as a .pdf online at: http://www.cyberlink.com/support/powerdirector-ultra/userguide_en_US.html

When you are all done, you have to publish the edited result by clicking the "Produce" menu button at the top of the screen. This will convert your Power Director editing directions into a .wmv, mpeg, .avi of other file format for the material you want to share online. If you just save the project, that only saves the editing directions in the proprietary Power Director program language. That is still a good idea in case you want to revisit some of your edits later on.

Re: Help with VideoPad (or another editor?)

Hey guys. I film with gopros, and have been editing with windows movie maker. I haven't been able to figure out if I can habe split screen video playing. Anyone the answer to this? If not, what editing program can I use that would allow it?

Re: Help with VideoPad (or another editor?)

I found one I can understand (intuitive).
It's Magix Easy Video HD. Not a lot of bells/whistles that are confusing. Just cut/delete what you DON'T want, & ofers a few transitions.
It has the raw vid. on top & the edited vid. on the bottom... izzat what you mean?

Re: Help with VideoPad (or another editor?)

What I'm looking for is to have the ability to have one side of the screen from one camera, and the other half from another camera. For example when landing a sandbar, have the forward facing camera view playing at the same time as the cockpit view. I like videos like this that show what's going on inside and out at the same time.
