Mil 24 -"Hind"? Saw one parked at Lancaster (Dallas) a few days ago. Lots in Africa, usually flown by contract pilots, sometimes used for "crowd control".

Do they all operate without a moving main rotor? My point was perhaps not as obvious as I thought. The camera sync is such that it appears that the main rotor is stationary.

That my Friends is called Translational lift. Once a certain speed is attained the rotor brake is applied and forward speed does the rest. It's a no brainer. Simple arrowdynamiks 101 8)
