Good for you Pat.

I know as well as any that these are pretty tough financial times, and I'm expecting them to get worse before they get better. I know my life is a financial roller coaster. When I have more, I give more, but I always try to give. RAF, IAA, UBCP, MPA, NRA. They all do a good job.

Ya know, it doesn't take much. We have almost 2000 members here, if everyone gave $20, that would be nearly $40K, to protect, improve, and expand our backcountry strips(playground). That would be HUGE.

Obviously, I like all these organizations, but a nice thing about the RAF is that they are not state specific. I know right now they are working with NM., and Colo. to get a good backcountry airstrip program in place.

Thanks Bill

Your contribution helps all of us that like to go play on the backcountry strips.

I have been around a lot of dead weight in my life, as I am sure most have been around here. I just feel very strongly that if you find something you like to do, you should participate. In the case of backcountry flying, which is a passion of mine, and I assume, of a lot of others here, we need to work together to keep this activity alive and well. There are a lot of other interests out there, that either don't care, or would like to see it gone.

Personally, I donate what I can to the groups mentionaed above. Beyond that, I carry a mattox with me to help clear any strips I land on if they need it, throw rocks off, take people flying to expose them to backcountry flying, and encourage others to do the same.

I've been lurking out here for a while, enjoying the feel of this place. I've also been involved with the RAF since it was started. The silver 180 in the video is mine, and I've never had a more pleasant time than the days we spent recording the video, flying the Great Bear Wilderness and Missouri Breaks. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you out in the backcountry soon. Meanwhile, if you get a chance, stop by the RAF booth at the Northwest Aviation Trade show, or the Montana Aviation Conference.

By the way, last I heard, there were a few caps left in the raffle for a Garmin 560, to be awarded at the Montana Aviation Conference this year. If you buy an RAF cap for $100 or more, you have a one in a hundred chance of winning the GPS.

I've been thinking of joining, been holding off since I don't have a plane or do very much of this type of flying. But now that I've learned a bit more about what they are doing, the time of waiting is over. I downloaded the donation / join form. Now to decide if I want to go ahead and do the lifetime membership now...or wait..haha.

Re: Here's little video/explanation from the RAF

The RAF had a cool display at the NW Aviation show, a little campsite complete with folding chairs & a fire ring. Instead of giving out halloween candy like everybody else, they appropriately had trail mix. I kidded the gal working the booth about not having an actual fire in the fire ring, I offered to go round up some kindling but she laughingly passed.
They were giving out those DVD's- very cool, even makes "dead weight" like me think about donating. Mike, I'm hoping you'll autograph mine for me the next time I bump into you.

Just becoming a Supporting Member would be great. However, a lifetime membership to the RAF would be an awesome gesture. =D>
