Good bet that unless I was hopped up on adrenaline preparing to blow away the marauding pirates about to board my boat, it'd probably knock me on my keister. I've always hoped that it's wicked enough looking that it would scare away all but the most determined bad guys.

Nah...18.5" barreled 12ga is a totally different beast. It's not bad at all as an actual rifle with a nice buttstock in your shoulder, especially if you stick to the 2 3/4" shells.
This pistol though is masochistic.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
Muzzle brakes suck!
Sure they reduce recoil and make shooting big bores tolerable but ONLY if you’re wearing hearing protection!
I have 40% hearing loss in my left ear and loud tinnitus from shooting a warthog w/a braked 300 wby.
If you don’t have time or forget to put your earmuffs on then you’re screwed.
It was a great warthog though so at least there’s that[emoji6]

As a rule I wear it any time I shoot anything. But if I'm pulling that 460 in anger then I am about to be bear shit regardless, so I will take partial hearing loss over being mostly eaten.

It really is a last resort tool for why I bought it (well, that and shock and awe at the range).

I always wear hering protection while shooting (or motorcycling or power tools or hammering for that matter). When shooting the 500 or similar or a BMG I use ear plugs and ear muffs. Even then I don't enjoy more than a couple rounds on the BMG or a couple of dozen with the 500.

I think those who say "I don't need no stinkin' ear plugs" are the same ones who will be buying expensive hearing aids in the future. Many of us have had to do that anyway, combination of age and airplane noise, but there's no reason to make it worse. I certainly wish I'd been more protective of my hearing many long years ago, although I've been pretty lucky that my hearing loss is just into the "I need hearing aids" range, i.e., not profound. I can still get along without them, but life is more pleasant with them, especially in noisy settings such as restaurants.

I resemble that.
Then again no one wore earplugs when I was a kid. Rock and roll concerts certainly did not help.

As usual I think I will wait until it comes out in a small bore. I prefer 28 ga!

Well, that's not fair. I think the Judge is probably dumber...
I have a judge, it's very practical.....for crawling around in tight spaces in my poultry barn and killing off the rats. I can't think of anything else it would be good for though.
