Every time I see a video of those things I think of "Wile E. Coyote" and the "Acme batman suit, garuanteed for the life of the user" =D> . I've never seen a video of one going "splat", so I guess they work pretty good, but I don't think I'll try one anytime soon.

Corliss pulled up to avoid a premature landing in that video and ended up flying above the crack. He sure looked happy to be alive afterwards!
