How to NOT land a birddog

Well, I thought I would be smart and film a nice 45/50 degree flap landing but instead what I got was some hard right breaking to stay on the runway. You can't hear it in the video but my right tire was squealing on the pavement after I touched down.

I broke my "do not goof off when landing a birddog" rule and was paying more attention to hitting the Three Zero numbers. Enjoy and critique away :)

Skip to the 45 second mark if you're in a hurry

That is a nice looking Birddog! Only one problem with it....it is there instead of in my hangar!!! Whats with those itty bitty tires though? JK...

That is obviously the problem. Those small tires just don't get a very good grip. :D

Keep the Greasy side down!

Re: How to NOT land a birddog

I'm not one to criticize landings.
If you walk away, it is a good landing...
If you can reuse the plane....
It is a GREAT landing!

I will suggest that if it is tied down outside all the time with that sharp paint job 8) ,
it is at least a misdemeanor, if not a felony! [-X

With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

Yes, I know Trevor, we fly together a lot. Actually we were camping last weekend in Columbia and we met up yesterday in Pine Mountain lake.

Re: How to NOT land a birddog

You and Trevor should come fly with us on the "west circuit" sometime. It's basically a bunch of strips and some off airport sites between berryessa and clear lake. It would be cool to have another 170 and a bird dog fly with us.

Re: How to NOT land a birddog

First of all, I would love to find some cool strips to land on. In fact I want to go flying this week if I can get permission from my activities coordinator (wife).

Second... shameless plug so I apologize in advance for pimping my Facebook app for pilots but, If you're on facebook join YALLDO, connect with Trevor and I, plan and invite us on the flight. I plan and track all my flights there.

Ok, no more plugs. But I would definitely like to do that.

Re: How to NOT land a birddog

I'm not on facebook, just BCP!:D There's a bunch of us in the area on here that fly a lot. I'll usually post something on here to get a group going. I'd love to go flying this week but I'll be gone till the 23rd. When I get back I'll be going to aktahoe's High Sierra fly In on the 26-27th... There's a thread on it here if you haven't seen it. I went last year and it was a lot of fun. If you can make it you should definitely go. There's a lot of cool places to land out there too.

Trevor, you ought to head to this High Sierra fly-in and shoot some footage. :)

Re: How to NOT land a birddog

Ok, I'm going to check it out and see where that is. One sec....

and Don't fear the Facebook :)

Ok, I checked it out and that looks awesome. I'm going to immediately start working deals with my wife to let me go. I can't imagine the trading gymnastics I'm going to have to do to pull this off with a 5 month old baby at home.
