Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this strip? Can't really call it a strip because it's fairly huge. Just east of June Lake right off 395. South of Mono Lake.

Looking at it on Google Earth pro I would say it definitely was a runway at some time in the past. 2000 foot long by 80 foot wide, with an extension 1000 foot long by 60 foot wide on the south end. The 4 LARGE X's indicating it is closed show up as looking fairly old in the 1993 photos, and it has indications that someone has tried to plant something on it to "rehabilitate" it sometime in the past. It's probably safe to land on with big tires, but it is on public land in the "Peoples Republic of California", and close to the sacred spots of Mono lake and Yosemite N.P., so you have a good chance of needing a lawyer afterwards.

Gravity Strikes Again.
Looks like folks might still be landing there judging by the tire marks. I'm looking to launch from there. Unless Mr Ranger shows up.

I was told by a local instructor that the strip was used during WWII for testing /training of some sort.

Yeah I saw that. 7925 MSL or so according to Google. Definitely too high to launch a PPC as gutless as mine. Now I'm just curious about the place. Might make a good camping spot if nothing else.
