I think the Ozarks are an under appreciated gem

We did a STOL Tips seminar down there several years ago and got to see a bunch of super cool strips in the process. I was impressed with how awesome the area was, and how much I didn't realize was there. Despite being based out of Dallas for a while and only a hour away I certainly didn't know what all it had to offer. I was determined to go back when not teaching and I had that opportunity this week, bringing home a 206 we just bought.

We stopped at perhaps one of the sweetest destinations I have ever been too for anyone that likes outdoor activities. Bryd's adventure center 51AR is an absolute playground for anything with a motor, paddle, or pedal. Rock gardens for crawling, 25 miles of 4X4 trails, white water rafting, MTB trails, anything really that involves outdoors, a sweet restaurant, and really nice cabins (and some not so nice ones) if you aren't into the camping thing

We had the whole park to ourselves and the owner Zen was just the best host. He let me do a bunch of drone work while he flew his plane all over the park. This guy will land anywhere in that little thing. It was truly a privilege. Even though we were only there for a night we plan to go back with bikes, kayaks, and a plane that can play a little better than our cargo hauler.

That place has a fly-in every year. It looked kind of short on the chart (don't laugh, the 195 is not what I would call a STOL plane) but after seeing that video, there's plenty of room.

What other strips did you hit in the Ozarks? I just got back from Trigger Gap, which is about as back country as you can get down here for a public, charted strip. I'll post a trip report.

Trigger gap is pretty sweet. Check out airfield.guide the creators of that are from Bentonville. While it is an RAF partnered website now, it’s beta phase was populated using stuff around the ozarks.

Our trip got cut short so we are gonna head back with the 206 and our maule full of kayaks and bikes in oct.

Great video...thank you for the trip report and suggestions.

The only issue is one has to fly over Kansas to get there <grin> from Colorado!

Visited Byrds last weekend and had a great time. They had a big 4x4 event going on but Zen still made time to go flying with me and show me some neat airstrips. Definitely some fun flying and a blast to rip some lines through the campground. They treat people like family and will take care of you!
