I want to play in the water

I have been seeing all the pictures posted of you all skimming along the water and it looks like a blast. I am not positive I am going to do it yet, just looking for some tips. How to get started? Things not to do?

Re: I want to play in the water

Here are a couple lengthy discussions over on SC.org. Hard to raise a topic like this without getting a lot of sanctimonious responses (i.e., "I'm calling you an idiot, but it's for your own good"). If you sift through that, you might actually find some decent advice on how to do it.

Whether you do it, on the other hand, is solely up to you as PIC. In the understatement of the century, your mileage may vary!

Re: I want to play in the water

Gunship,
I was in your shoes a few years ago, I wanted to do it so bad I couldn't stand it.
The only advice I can give you is to talk to someone who has done it, and watch your airspeed. It is all about airspeed unless you are trying to float.
I learned three things the first time I did it.
1: those who knock it haven't tried it.
2: how hard the water is.
3: how quick it gets mushy if you are not paying attention to the extra drag the water causes.
Be careful, and have fun!

One word:pelicans!

We have record numbers of them around here, not to mention all the other waterfowl. Just today I was landing on some gravel bars, and had a bald eagle fly out of a tree above me, ducks taking off in front of me, seagulls along side, and pelicans watching from the shoreline, I think I was amusing them?Image
