Idaho AIrcraft Ownership Questions
Owning an aircraft has many special considerations like financing, taxes, inspections, registration, and even partnerships. You can post questions on buying and selling procedure. Please post type-specific questions and topics in the
Types forum.
Doing some research on the place. Do the counties in Idaho try to collect personal property tax? If so, is there an historical exemption? Does the state still charge an annual registration fee?
I noticed a lot of the smaller airports do not have city hangars available to rent. How common is it to build your own hangar?

No personal property tax if you pay the Idaho Aviation Department fee which is about the cheapest you could ever expect. I forget the amount, but like 125 bucks for a C185 per year. The money goes for aviation related funding, not general fund. Idaho department of aviation actually works in support of promoting aviation at the small airports and backwoods strips. Not aware of historical exemptions.

Washington is $65 a year for a single-engine.
The bad part is having to pay use tax (aka sales tax) when you buy the airplane..
9% in my county.

Kim Smith, Sand Point Idaho is the realtor you want to deal with for aviation properties in northern Idaho. She is the only one my friends and I will deal with. She knows what is available and what is coming up available before it hits the market. In pretty tight with the flying community up here and respected.

The annual registration fee in Idaho is 2.5 cents/pound gross weight, CHEAP by a lot of other states. The caveat is if you don't pay the registration fee for a year, the county can come after you for property taxes that are a lot higher. Also if you burn more than 50 gallons of car gas in a year keep your receipts, you can get a refund on the difference between auto tax rates and avgas tax rates and the tax will be transferred to state aeronautics budget instead of hi-way budget.

Gravity Strikes Again.
Rockhopper - thanks for the referral. We were kind of thinking more along the lines of Adams, Gem, Washington or Boise Counties.
