Here's the earlier thread where G3 first brought this up. There are a few responses in there you could use.

Re: Idaho met tower marking bill HO511 going to the House!

Is this for the towers they were putting up for checking wind speed, or I suppose any in genereal?? I went by one in Az. last month, they are still a little tough to see, but this one was pretty well marked. I missed it by probly 100' . Marked it on my GPS. Thought I would start a thread with this on there. Maybe a google map type of thing so others can see where atleast some of the towers are wouild be good???

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Sounds good and all, Gary. But I think the biggest problem with these towers is that get moved around very often. Sometimes put up and down almost overnight.

I guess on the map it would be good to at least know an area that these towers are more likely to be in. But like some have said, they've seen them in the middle of nowhere before.

They need to be at least well lighted with bright LED lights/markers/flashers/beacons/smoke signal/DOT Tape/Orange Flags/etc. :D

I don't know, I can't help but think that some effort is better than no effort. The one i saw was pretty well maked once I saw it, but I was pretty close before I did see it. Just seems like giving folks a heads up is a good thing??? I know we wont get em all, and they can be moved, and many folks wont bother to look, But, I fly pretty low, and I wouldn't mind knowing what I could ahead of time. I know it's no gaurantee, but some insight would be better than none.

Thanks to those making an effort to send a note to your house rep.
Gary and others concerned about position reporting; Please find 511 on the legislative search page and read it before making comments. This bill does not include that and we must stay on topic as it is currently written when you comment. Please no muddying of the waters. I won't go into it here now but you can rest assured that after three winters of working on this it is not for no reason that it has been left out

Re: Idaho met tower marking bill HO511 going to the House!

My thinkin wasn't to alter the bill/muddy the waters, rather just something on this site where we could participate and identify known towers so others could see and beware.

Guess I am a little slooooooow. Does that mean we shouldn't try and keep track of these through this site(always preferred, atleast by me), or some other?

Re: Idaho met tower marking bill HO511 going to the House!

This good news and thanks to all who worked to put this together.

You efforts may already be having some effect. There area bunch of these towers on the Idaho - Nevada border south of Twin Falls. They are pretty much on a direct line from Twin Falls to Elko, NV. I just noticed Friday that some are now painted in contrasting red/white sections. Friday, I didn't get to look at, or just didn't see them, but the ones that were in that area in the past were steel gray (galvanized) and impossible to see until right on them - scary!
