IMAX movie and a new hat

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

IMAX movie and a new hat

Inkom and across the high desert to the Big Lost River Valley hang glider launch site, where they had the biggest competition meet in the USA this weekend. These guys are going hundreds of miles and way above 18K. It's common to meet pilots from all over the world there. I still have buddies doing that and feel obligated to check in and say hi. Even though they think I'm a pussy for flying behind an engine! I wanted to top land at one of the launch sites, but the wind sock was in the way, worse, the sock was gone and just the pole was there, which I almost didn't see in time.

From there through a tight pass into the Pashimerou Valley, incredible scenary and glass smooth air. On up to Salmon after a quick drop in at a private strip that is for sale (3.2million, contact me if interested) bought a Salmon Air Taxi hat, again. Then on over and down another major Idaho valley where I picked up the dirt road to Tendoy Pass. It is fun to follow and it takes you over and into Montana below Dillon.

Then I overflew the Red Rock lakes area, very remote and scenic, I may have gotten a little low a few times [-X That takes you into Henry's Lake, then on over into the West Yellowstone airport. Got the bike out and had lunch and saw a killer IMAX movie on caving, with believe it or not some GREAT aerial sequences. It seems the best caves are in canyons, and some of the must have been chopper footage was a** puckering, maybe not if you just climbed out of the Winnebago, but at that point I'd already flown over 5 hrs so I was relating to it bigtime.

After killing a little more time b.sing with the bored (no action/fires) chopper pilots back at the airport I decided to fly home as it was only a bit less then 2 hrs away, the wind had died a bit and I had cold beer in the fridge and none at the campground. Got the usual great view of the Tetons on the way back. I landed at home showing 7.1 hrs on the Hobbs meter, and still had 2 hrs of fuel remaining thanks to taking my ferry tank. I've done this route a bunch of times, once a year at least, and never tire of it, simply great scenary and you never hear it talked about, unlike the Frank Church Area, I guess I should keep it secret but feel guilty for having it all to myself, or so it seems! Passing on going to the Blue Angels show, I had to make do with this flight for my weekend jollies.

Re: IMAX movie and a new hat

courierguy,
that sounds like a very inviting trip indeed! If we can ever get back to that side of the country I would hope to visit some of the out of the way places you mentioned. Thanks for the trip report.
