Impulse Raffle Ticket

This is my first post. I have been coming to this site and reading all of the formus for the last year. I just set up my login a few days ago. I must say that I have learned alot from this site and its members. I think all of you guys and look forward to meeting all of you guys. I find myself in a situation that I need advice on.

History: Back in 2000 I took flying lessons ( got married to a overcontroller ) and the flight lessons had to stop. I was really close and it had killed me ever since. All flying in C-172s. A few years back I got rid of the overcontroller and have been putting life back together. I have vowed that this is the year to get my PPL. I will be taking time off work and using my Contract signing bonus to pay for my training.

Problem: I was hanger dreaming on barnstormer the other day and ran across a ad for a raffle for a 172. I read all the info and called the place raffling the plane. Decided to buy a ticket. Then a few more beers later I googled " Aircraft Raffles" and came up with a Stinsion 108 being raffled in CA. I bought a ticket for that too. Now I wondering what I do if I win. The Stinsion in being given away in September and the 172 Next July. Definatly won't have PPL next month. Might be able to have it next July.

Welcome to the site Fly2Fish. The answer to your dilemma is simple: Be Happy!

Of course that advice also applies in the rare case that you don't win!

I'm sure that I would be happy. I'm just worried about getting insurance without a PPL if I shall happen to win the Stinson. Also getting the planes up to Washington. Stinson is in CA. the 172 is in Texas. Anybody willing to volunteer to be PIC with me along if I win the Stinson?

Sounds like you need to buy a lotto ticket, then you can do your primary training in your Citation.

The Stinson Club is pretty active. If you win the Stinson PM me and I'll hook you up with someone in CA that can help you get your new Stinson home.

I have one a couple raffles in the past. Nothing like this. I just want to have a since of how to go about it if I win. There are only 1200 tickets sold for the Stinson. 2500 for the 172. Good ods. Better than Lotto Gump.

The beers will do it every time...that's probably how you ended up with that "overcontroller" too!?

If I were you I wouldn't go counting my eggs before they hatch and I truly wouldn't be wasting any time worrying about insurance or ferrying. If you win one or both then you should be "crap your pants happy" and consider yourself lucky to have to worry about insurance and ferrying. There are people all over this world that WISH their biggest flying concern was how to get their free plane home and insured. In the mean time, concentrate on your lessons and get that PPL under your belt!

Thanks for the tip J Michael. I will check out the club if I win.

Capt. Kirk unfortuatly I was sober for the overcontroller. Just young and dumb. I will never get married again.

So many planes....so little time.........

Just don't worry about it until you win it. I always buy a ticket or two on the bird raffled off at the annual Anchorage Trade Show (usually a tricked out Cub with all the options and goodies as a bush bird) and it's frequently won by a little old lady in Florida with blue hair or some such other person other than me......... so........... Just start flying and welcome to the site..

Or look at it this way, if you only bought one ticket you have 1199 chances to lose on the Stinson and 2499 chances on the 172 - - now those are *really* good odds!

Best bet for getting an airplane is start saving money.

Don't worry too much about winning those planes. It's ok to dream, though. But if you do win, check with A.O.P.A on insurance. I think I got a good rate for my plane even though I wasn't even a student pilot when I bought my plane. Just get out there and get your PPL!! And don't be like me and have over 80 hrs logged and still don't have my PPL   !!
