At Oshkosh, I was informed by Lycoming Tech Support that a new Lycoming Service Instruction is out, SI 1009BF, which authorizes the extension of many Lycoming engine TBOs to 2600 hours. Here's a link to download the SI: https://www.lycoming.com/service-instruction-1009-bf.

The engine has to be a first run Lycoming engine, with all Lycoming parts, or a Lycoming overhauled engine. There are other caveats, noted in the SI.

I asked one of the Tech Reps at the Lycoming display at OSH whether this applies to my first run, but very old in calendar years engine. His response: "Yep, Merry early Christmas."
