Installing Electric Trim on 182

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Installing Electric Trim on 182

Good Day All,

Well the title says it all.....

Does anyone have any info on installing electric trim on a Cessna 182 that has an STEC 50?

What are the options, prices and what is involved?

Cheers

Re: Installing Electric Trim on 182

I do believe your limited to the manual electric trim option on the 50, about $3K on hardware and whatever the dealer wants to install it. Having just put a System 30 in my 185, the pitch servo is just a joy to install, as it is back in the tailcone. The Trim option for a 182 would install back there as well. So it is a combination of running the harness from tail to panel, putting in the switches and wires to your yoke, and mounting the brackets and bridals to attach to your trim system. So bottom line, a lot of interior has to come out, some metalwork on the tailcone, and some mods to your yokes. Nice thing about STEC, they come with pre-built harness & brackets from the factory and a comprehensive hardware kit. The documentation is a bit of a head scratcher at points. However, they build to order, so expect some delay. They only sell to dealers to do the install.

Re: Installing Electric Trim on 182

Having just done it on the bare frame of my Bearhawk (pun)... it would be a real "joy" to retro-fit a completed airframe... a LOT would need to come out!

Electric trim is sooooo good though (IMHO). Keeping one hand on the stick and the other on the throttle at all times during the final stages of those tricky landings makes me a happy pilot. =D>
