Installing float fittings

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Installing float fittings

Mt partners and I are looking at installing float fittings on a Stinson 108-3. It’s an O-470 equipped -3 and in absolutely beautiful condition, currently on Bush wheels. We have 2870’s for it along with the STC. This is the Stinson that we all want but some of us are a bit nervous about the surgery involved in installing the kit.

Does anyone have any experience with cutting fabric back and welding on a perfectly good airframe? Any insights or advise?

Re: Installing float fittings

If you are in BC I'd talk to Rick Church at Langley Aero.

He knows fabric and he knows floats and he is a straight shooter.

I think he's even on BCP, though not sure how active.

Gents,

How did you get the 2870 STC now? I thought that STC owner passed and never sold it prior?

Re: Installing float fittings

Thanks folks. I know of Rick. I'll pop in there.

@Nimpocub- these will be a weld on fitting.

@Jimbo2601- it was with the a/c when I bought in. I believe the stc was passed on to someone else (a son perhaps?) and is still available.

Rick is going to be away from the shop for a bit but I think he keeps checking his langleyaero@telus email address.

You can chat with Anthony at the Langley airport shop or Ryan down at Fort Langley. Both good guys but I think you'll want Rick's opinion in the end.
