Re: Insurance

I use Falcon aviation - the policy I have is through Global aerospace. I have 1 million smooth coverage, 130K hull, zero deductible, Canada/Mexico, and no off airport limitations. 2162/year. I have 2400 TT/1200TW

The extended dual instruction thing seems to be the new norm, but $4100 is outrageous!
You might try calling Bill White Insurance.

He had the best price when I first bought my 180. Insured with him for 4 years.
But I got a slightly lower quote elsewhere this year so I jumped ship.

Re: Insurance

Thanks for info to compare. I will start calling around unless one of the brokers gets back to me with better numbers and / or requirements.

gdflys, I may reach out to you for instruction. I live on an Island, so no matter where I go will require travel & lodging. At least I can drive to your location instead of flying the majors to get there.

If your on Nantucket we should be able to make something work. Do you have the plane already or need to pick it up? That could count towards a lot of the insurance requirement.

Re: Insurance

I have used Avemco since 2001. There is cheaper insurance out there but I am not sure it is better. I had one claim with Avemco back in 2003 when my plane was damaged in a windstorm. Avemco’s service was excellent and one of the main reasons I’ve stayed with them. They even waived the deductible.

But of course my goal is to never use the insurance. Liability is my biggest worry. I’m particularly careful about who I take flying and what I do when they’re with me.

Re: Insurance

The owners of the C172 I flew for 15 years used AVEMCO but no claims to test out how they would perform.

Jdflys, I do not have the airplane yet. Still in early stages of pre-qualifying, arranging a pre-buy inspection, etc. I think I lost out on one sale & still working on another. Would definitely be looking to have a CFI make the pick-up and flight back home to accumulate the insurance time quickly. Beats leaving a newly purchased airplane at a distant airport until I get the time. I'll IM you my contact info.

Re: Insurance

One item among may to keep in mind is recovery of aircraft after the accident, Im not talking about the covering on a fabric airplane, Im talking about the "go get the wreckage". Many companies do not cover this cost, AVEMCO does, this could be a big deal if you have an accident of forced landing somewhere not easily accessible. Ask the broker or AVEMCO about this next time you talk to them.

Also, sometimes their is a hail limitation such as hail damage covered up to xx percent of the value of the aircraft. Im my case years ago I had a policy that had this limitation, it was 10 percent of hull value. Although I never had to use it I discovered this limitation buried in the fine print. Imagine if you needed to recover your $90,000 fabric airplane due to a hail storm and you only had $9,000 worth of coverage. From what I hear this clause is not very common anymore but watch out, it could be (as well as other restrictive limitations) in your policy or a policy you are considering buying in the future.

Food for thought.

Re: Insurance

Ditto the "off airport exclusion".
I had a policy once that didn't cover landing off airport except in the case of a declared emergency.
Changed insurance after I discovered that- luckily not the hard way.
