Is BWI Insurance legit?

I recently switched to BWI insurance after having AVEMCO for the past 10 or so years since they quoted me a lower rate for Alaska.
Well, after I sent them the check and they cashed it, I received the insurance paperwork. Then about a week later, another bill for additional $400. They said they made a mistake and my policy should be ~$400 more. I tried calling and emailing them to ask about what that is all about, but have not heard back!
I haven't flown my plane as I am afraid that I am actually not insured, so just keep it safe in the hangar.
Has anyone had any dealings with BWI insurance?

I've use them for my wagon for several years. Haven't filed a claim, but the rates are good, and I've received decent service.

Never filed a claim but only positive experience with BWI. Currently have two planes insured with them.

You said you got the insurance paperwork - So you are insured. You just owe an additional $400. No reason not to fly the airplane.....

I use them and recommend them. Filed a claim, no hassle whatsoever. If you received a policy, then you are covered UNLESS you have received documentation or notification of cancellation of policy.

I've been with BWI for 4 years and no complaints. Their rates are way cheaper than Avemco.

I have been using Bill White for about 20 years and would recommend them. I made one claim and it was hassle free.

Have used BWI for 17 years for my 180. 3 years for my Super Legend. Great service, no problems.

Compared their rates with my current (I go through EAA/Falcon Insurance), and they were much higher! Surprised me because everyone speaks highly of BWI and how their rates are the lowest.. but not for me. Is it still a good deal after the surprise $400 price hike??

It's now close to Avemco, but $800 cheaper than AOPA quote. Next year, I may go back to Avemco, but I'll try Falcon first!

Re: Is BWI Insurance legit?

For what its worth I went with I went with Travers Aviation Ins. This is my first year of owning my C80 and only had 40hr tailwheel before buying it. Travers was 1k cheaper than anything else I could find. BWI wasn't very responsive with my inquiry. I assumed it was because I asked them for several quotes before I actually pulled the trigger on my a/c and they stopped taking me seriously on the last request.

Travers is probably worth a call next year. Also very flexible and easy to work with. I'm curious how they stack up to other quotes if anyone gives them a try.
