Anyone want to meet for lunch Sunday 12/29 at Picabo? I'm headed from Elko to Butte, MT with my son so thought we'd stop for lunch if the snow isn't too deep to land. Does anyone know if the airstrip is open for wheels?

Don't know current conditions but I know they plow it frequently. I imagine someone at the gas station there would have current info. Wish I could make it.

A little late to post for you but yes the airstrip is open.
We have no snow to speak of here. Email me (i get it on my phone) and i can see if your "lunch" time is going to work with my time schedule.

It looks real hazy out that way, both low and high level. I have the peaks behind me in the soup so it looks like my Afton breakfast run is also out Yesterday it did the same thing this time, but surprisingly it cleared up quite late in the day and I snuck a local flight in. North wind BTW right now.

I thought of Picabo the other day, and wondered about their snow clearing (I may get over that way in a few more days to eyeball that mega load moving through Idaho), and then I remembered I have wheel skis and one way or the other I could deal with the strip

Ok, maybe next time. Looks like Idaho Falls is IFR this AM anyway with the usual IF river/valley fog.

I was in there a week or so ago, it was fine. Only snow was a line at the west end where they had plowed a little hill that hadn't melted yet. That should even be gone by now.
You're going to fly over the inversion layer on the way. I tried to get from Smiley down to the house in Gooding yesterday and couldn't due to the layer in the valley. Going to try again today but KJER is 1/2 mi in freezing fog right now.
The web cams at the Timmerman hills and Hailey look good right now and that was about the line yesterday as well. You should be fine for Picabo.
