I have published my initial evaluation of the new McMurdo Fast Find PLB. Efforts to put together a full-on evaluation of the new Fast Find in the same manner and under the same conditions as we have tested PLBs in the past have been frustrated by our inability to raise the funds necessary. The economy definitely is hurting our ability to conduct this sort of large scale and expensive testing. In doing this, we attempted to conduct meaningful abbreviated testing in, literally, our own backyard, that would stress the PLB adequately to the point that it would show up any significant issues and, hopefully, provide us a reasonable level of confidence in the new Fast Find.
Is the new Fast Find worth betting your life on? We've got the answer:

Thanks Doug, we are looking at those at work to build on our current inventory of Microfix(es.) Looks like our initial assessment (twice the unit at almost half the price) was the correct one.

Good report, Doug, and thanks again for all your work to evaluate stuff that will actually work in a survival situation.

Thanks for the excellent write-up. I just obtained pricing on the ACR microfix that eliminates the cost disparity, and the McMurdo still looks like the hands-down winner.

Well, that's interesting. Curious if you could share where you got that pricing?

Uhh... Somali Pirates? Meth addicts who steal case lots of goods from unsecured containers in our nation's ports?
Actually, it's just a unique circumstance I happen to be presented with. I would certainly share it if it was something others could take advantage of.
I'm not trying to boast or flaunt anything- I thought it would make an interesting hypothetical question to rank the two devices if cost was not a part of the equation.
