ISO: Camp Cook at fly-in location

Not sure if this is or isn't the place to post this but my regular cook has not raised his son properly. He is getting married smack-dabb in the middle of the hunt so my cook is not available for this coming season. It would be Sept. 01 - Oct. 01 maybe 2-3 days earlier of which I should know within the next month. You would be cooking breakfast & dinner for a maximum of 12 people including yourself. I am definitely not looking for a "chef" I need someone that can prepare home cooked meals like your gramma used to serve on the farm. Baking is not a requirement... store bought bread and Duncan Hines cakes will do. Kitchen is above average and has absolutely everything you will need. Between pay and gratuities, most find it to be very reasonable and low stress with some nice local benifits. Need to keep a clean kitchen, organize food orders weekly and help with some of the day to day camp chores. No firewood to cut. Please contact me at [email protected] Someone with float time would also be an asset, but the aviation aspect is not a carrott. There may or may not be some flying involved for the right person. CDN. ppl or cpl Most likely suitable for someone retired with hunting & fishing background and interests to get the full appreciation of what this position really has to offer.

I'd apply but the best thing I make is...reservations

You might get a cook from BC...I know lots of the outfitters have had their quotas cut and so their seasons have been shortened.

I know guys have managed to find quality staff from the BC Guide Outfitters Association website...I think you can post ads for free even if you're not a member. Here's a link http://www.goabc.org/

Harry McCowan's website has an "outfitter connection page" on it that has stuff for sale, job ads, and people looking for work...it might be worth a look. It's a BC outfit so you might find somebody from there who has been affected by the quotas.

Good luck with your search!

Northernguy, Thanks for your suggestions but I am trying to find someone a little closer to home. The camp is in northern Quebec. But I will most definitely take a look to see if anyone from the east is applying for positions in the west that I might be able to poach. Again, thanks.

I figured BC might be a bit far for ya...

N. Quebec eh? Jeez...I might have to learn to cook just to see the country :D

Best of luck with your search!

Yeah, I'm on the 58th pretty much 800 miles due north of Quebec City but fly guests commercial out of Montreal to Kuujjuaq. Also, would like to endorse GOABC as a great organization for both hunters & outfitters. I belonged when I was outfitting in the MacKenzie Mountains, NWT. They have a great Fundrasing Banquet.
