J3 Cub with C-85 Exhaust modification
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
I was helping out a friend over the weekend, who was trying to install a B&C alternator on his J3 Cub with a C-85 and it looks like the exhaust needs to be modified to allow room for the alternator, as it's a pretty tight fit at the back of the motor.
My question is, has anyone come across this issue and if so, is there a modification or an stc'd exhaust system to accommodate? Anybody up in Alaska find a cure to this problem? Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Is that the standard drive location for an alternator on the C-85? Or is it the little B&C acc drive model?

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
It's the little B&C drive model which fits into the opening on the lower left side of the engine. From what my friend was told from Aircraft Spruce when he ordered, it was suppose to bolt in without issue. It does bolt in, however the exhaust heat shroud comes right up against the alternator and there's not enough room get the exhaust back on without having to make some kind of modification. I was wondering if anyone else has come across this? Thanks...

I'd maybe call the folks at Univair, or Atlee Dodge and see if they can help. I assume this is a C-85-12 ??
