I can tell you from my very own experience a few weeks back, Idaho is a totally different beast!

It appeared as though once the sun set or so it finally got good for winds, weather, etc., but.... mornings are much preferred. It went from 60 degrees at 9am and then 85 degrees at 10am...."DENSITY ALTITUDE" went through the roof in a matter of an hour!

I fly in density altitude daily here in the Sierra's and have flown all over Alaska into crazy places landing on the sides of mts chasing sheep and other critters.

Seeing the strips in Idaho you better know your surroundings. The strips there are in places that will blow your mind. Seriously! 9000' peaks with really tight canyons and the strips are at the bottom around 5500' or so. Just know before you go and give yourself the option to get back to McCall in the event your conditions do not allow for landing later in the day. JC is much better to get into than Big Creek, but its still one of those Idaho LZ's. Great spot, just know before you go.

Conditions in the bottom of the canyon may be totally different than at the tops of the canyons as well. That also mean downdrafts that your not aware of until your deep....

Be careful!

My confidence got the best of me.

We waited 'till mid August to get our first TFRs in Idaho!! They're both up near Grangeville. I was working the western most TFR, and they got a pretty good handle on that fire today.

That last round of weather earlier this week set off a bunch of new fires, but there was a lot of water associated with it, and most of the fires seem well behaved and mostly manageable.

Hey, you guys familiar with Johnson Creek, is there something called a "Harmonica Festival" put on in the summer? Or is that some other place. I play a pretty mean harmonica. If you have info on that, let me know......thanks

Yes, it is an annual event. First weekend in August. This year they didn't have the guest harmonica judges so I hear it wasn't as good. The turn out was around 2500, compared to the 5000 that attended a few years ago. This info I got from the gal at the general store last week. I have not yet made it up for the festival, but hope to next year. I talked to one of the organizers and they hope that they will get back to having the guest judges in the future.

By guest judges I take it you mean the guys who went by the name harmonicats. Not the original harmonicats but these guys were fantastic. Played every "Harmonicat" song and then some. They sold CD's and entertained the whole night....I still got my Festival t shirt, but I don't wear it as much as my BC-AH t shirt

Probably. Like I said, I haven't made it up there yet. They organizer that I talked to sure wasn't happy about them not being there this year. According to her, the businesses in town didn't want to pitch in to pay for them this year (airfare, lodging, etc.).
