Just read on SC.org that John and Dolly were killed in his cub on the Kobuk. John was the most active and highest time cub drivers I ever knew. I hunted with him and he checked me out in my cub on floats in 72. John and Dolly were alot of fun to just sit around with and tell stories of coarse with a little R&R. He was one hell of a cub driver and such a pain in the ass for the ADF&G. Prayers for his children and friends.

That is terrible, I am very sorry to hear that.

Does anyone know if this is the same John Greybill who was an active glider pilot in California at one time a few years back? Doesn't seem like a common name.

Not in Calif. John loved, owned and flew super cubs in Alaska for over 50 yrs. Was as good a cub driver as there was. He made cubs perform to the max limits and could land where others thought it impossible. The problem was he fought the weather and the weather finally won. He had several mishaps but they were always weather related. A writer Jeff Wise once did an article about John. John told him in all honesty he was extremely lucky to have lived through several bad situations he had been in due to weather.
Young and new pilots pay heed John and Dolly died in the fog but will be buried on a bluebird day.

Yep that's pretty much the way it was spent a few years chasing ole John and his buddies around Alaska.

Sad, but man what a life they lived.
Something to be learned from the way they lived and died.

John and Dolly's Service is tomorrow..........

Well-known Alaska bush pilot John Graybill and his devoted wife of 58 years, Dolores "Dolly," died when their plane went down in inclement weather on Aug. 12, 2010, while headed home to Chugiak from the McGrath area.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Peters Creek Christian Center on Chapel Road in Chugiak. A celebration of life will be after the service at John and Dolly's airplane hangar.
