GOVERNOR SIGNS ORDER FOR YELLOW PINE AND JOHNSON CREEK RESIDENTS TO EVACUATE 8:00 A.M., AUGUST 14
COX RANCH, Idaho…Due to extreme fire danger and the probability of fire impacting the Johnson Creek, Yellow Pine area, Valley County Sheriff, Patti Bolen, has requested and received a signed order from Governor C.L. Otter for a mandatory evacuation of Yellow Pine and Johnson Creek effective at 8:00 a.m., August 14 as a precautionary measure (see attached Proclamation).
Residents will be escorted in caravan fashion over Lick Creek Road from Yellow Pine to McCall, Idaho at 11:00 a.m., August 14. The Red Cross has established an evacuation center at the LDS Church in McCall, Idaho for anyone needing a place to stay. The Red Cross is also working with the Sheriff’s Department and others to try to find accommodations for pets and livestock. The evacuation will remain in place until residents can safely return.
The evacuation will allow fire crews and engines for effectively prepare for structure protection without the added worry of private citizen traffic along roads and streets.
Trigger Points, locations previously established relative to the Riordan Fire advancement, are being reached and indicate a high probability that the fire may reach the Johnson Creek Road south of Yellow Pine. In order to protect homes and private property along this road and in Yellow Pine, fire tactics may necessitate a burn out operation to remove fuel from the advancing fire front.
Preparations for this burn out will begin tomorrow and are expected to take one or two days.

I noticed the camera was down for maintenance.

I was wondering if the webcam being down had anything to do with the fire activity. With all the structures in the area, I'm afraid that the airstrip probaby won't be too high on the list for protecting. Hopefully since it is a state strip and there are some structures there, maybe it will get some attention, unlike Upper Loon Creek last year, which was completely burned.

Yes, it will come back...but it will take decades for it to get back to the way it was if it does burn. In a previous life I was a wildland firefighter for 8 years, so I know that nature needs to do a little house cleaning now and then, but it sure doesn't make it any easier to know some of the prettiest places on earth are going to be changed for decades. Hopefully the facilities, as well as the strip will get some protection. Also, hopefully the backburn will work well to protect those areas.

howdy all,i've work on a lot of fires and it real nice when every one helps each other when there is a evac those people need a pat on the back.when i lived in california my familia had to evac from the nampa fire if it wasn't for good neibors we would lost are house and are cattle i thank them.marc

I too hope that the fire doesn't burn the entire area. I have not been there yet and was really looking forward to going.

My wife and I went into Upper Loon a Couple weeks ago and had a great time but it sure would have been nice to have seen it before the fire. I took some pics and will try to post them.
