Re: Johnson Creek or Bust

One time when we flew through Wyoming, the turbulence was just about the worst I'd ever experienced.

We landed in a small town that happened to be having a town fair, and when my daughter saw one of those rides where the seat shoots you up and down at random on a vertical tower, she exclaimed "Hey look, a Wyoming Simulator!" =D>

Cubscout jokingly refers to the state as Windoming. I realized why when we were having trucks pass us as we cruised along at 48-50kts ground speed.

At least you usually get the tailwind on the way home. It's nice seeing a 140kt ground speed in a cub.

Hey!..We rode the Wyoming simulator..for REAL. Had a nice trip to Rawlins where I met Garry. Headed out figured we would lunch at AFO.....WRONG!..Got to within 40 miles of AFO, wind, verga, low clouds so we tried for Kremmling..the runways are torn up, next Evanston..winds were 90 deg gusting to 24, next Ft Bridger..more of the same. Headed back to Rock Springs..ASOS said calm but very turbulent approach. Just got the planes tied down and here came the wind. Got a rental car, picked up a guy with a Husky who was headed to Portland, and went to town to get a room at the Hampton Inn for the night. 2.5 hrs trip from RWL to Rock Springs by way up north..nomally about 40 minutes. Will try for Smiley in the morning.

Re: Johnson Creek or Bust

Dang... You must have been pretty close to my airport when you made the turn back to Kemmerer. I was just down there last Sat looking it over and getting it ready for the summer flying season. I made the BIG mistake of broadcast spreading 1100 bucks of Sodar Streamback Wheatgrass seed from the back of a snowmobile last Feb.. I am gonna have to mow it every week now... And I live 2 hours away, driving time. It's only 20 minutes flying but I can not get the mower in my plane. If I mention I am going to do something stupid like that again I hope one of you guys come over and knock some sense in me. [-o<

Fly safe guys.

Years ago I got a ride to Oshkosh in a 310, and on the way back the owner, having lined me out on how to operate the autopilot, went to sleep in the back. A couple hours later, it started getting bumpy....he woke up and first thing said "it feels like we are back in Wyoming", and we were by about 40 miles. Good call!

Looks like Friday morning for me at earliest, maybe Saturday, being self employed ain't all its cracked up to be!

Coyote Ugly should already be there. If all you guys are going to be up there by tomorrow, I'll try to get my butt in gear and drive up tomorrow, then.
