Just bought a sedan

1948 Sedan seaplane from the factory with the 180 hp. Just a step above a project plane so I can spend lots of money!

Re: Just bought a sedan

I love Aeronca Sedans. They just look "right". And with the 180hp you address the one potential criticism of being a bit light on power.

Of course you're now required to post pics of this acquisition.

Great floatplanes! Get Burl Rogers on your speed dial, he owns the type certificate, and is the worlds expert on the type.

You’ll love it!

Re: Just bought a sedan

My dad built up the first 180 sedans in Alaska back in the 70s at atlee's place on Omaley Rd. He used a Belanca Scout cowling as a start to the mold. Burl has the mold at his shop now. The Cherokee 180 conversion.... well thats another story. Fantastic float plane. Still have the sedan at Lake hood.

I am really excited, it seems to have all of the mods that are available with the exception of the right seat brakes

Re: Just bought a sedan

The 180hp Sedan I flew a couple years ago was awesome, the only criticism being it seemed under floated on Edo 2000's. I'm not sure there are bigger ones approved.

3 people in it was no problem for the airplane, but turning on the water with that much weight felt sketchy.

Re: Just bought a sedan

I taught a VERY heavy gent to fly floats in his bone stock Sedan many years ago. I’m talking heavy. That thing did incredibly well, better than a stock 170B, and no flaps.

A year or so later, I got a guy float rated in a 360 powered Sedan. Incredible!

At the time, I was flying 185s for work, and I’m convinced the Sedan has more room in the front seats.

They are floated properly (barely) for the legal gross, but itd be easy to overload one with a 360.

Okay, I screwed up the previous post, the green plane is a beaver...not a sedan!

Re: Just bought a sedan

I have heard that the edo2000s are under floated as well. I asked my mechanic if he thought we could get a field approval for whipline 2100s, I just don't know how hard it would be to do the rigging for it

Re: Just bought a sedan

Sedans are awesome, 180hp Sedans are even better! Might be pretty hard getting a field approval but if one can get one, maybe the PK straight floats over the 2100 Wip’s, more floatation or the Aerocets, but might be a bit under floated but better than the EDO 2000’s. Have fun with that awesome airplane!

Just bought the right side brake pedal kit from Burl. When it is installed I can bring it down to Homer. Anchorage us freaking cold this week, so I am in no hurry.
