Re: Just bought me a Supercub!!

I would replace the bungee covers with the canvas snap on ones. Metal ones rub on the bungee strut and weaken the strut after a while which can lead to failure see pic below... #-o

Ouch!!!

Actually it already does! The pic shown is a little older, now it has the canvas bungee covers and FAD safety cables. Also has the double puck brakes for an easy transition to bushwheels!!

That C140 looks like a nice one, it shouldn't be a hard sell (depending on price,of course). What're you gonna ask for it?
Prices for this and a lot of other airplanes should go up or at least hold their own if and when the medical-certificate-waiver thing gets approved. People who would otherwise be limited to LSA-compliant airplanes could instead step up to something a bit bigger.

Congrats. I've put quite a few hours on a Sport Cub in the last few years, and it never gets old. Enjoy that thing, it looks nice.

Currently on Barnstormers for $21,900, and not generating much interest...not the best time of year to sell a plane either I guess. I overhauled the engine this Feb and have already put about 75 hours on it, running great! Gonna lose my ass on this one because of the overhaul, but its a means to an end. Of course since I have already purchased the cub, somebody might get a smoking deal :?

Re: Just bought me a Supercub!!

Regarding the 140, other than what is in your barnstormers ad what other specifics can you offer here in public.....weights, things like that.

edited: took out the date question. I just read your ad again and see you were here about the same time as me.
I'll be back in San Luis around the middle of Nov. If you still have it let me know.l

Wish I could, as always our 8 month spray season gets in the way of all the fun stuff  Oh well, it's what pays for all the plane stuff...

Empty weight is around 960, you'd get about 18 pounds back with smaller tires...tell you what, if your interested ill email you more info, maybe even fly it down to SLO when you get back in town...im sure it will be sitting once I get the cub

Re: Just bought me a Supercub!!

Well the engine overhaul was finally finished. Picked the plane up this past Monday from the Lompoc airport and flew her back to King City. Had the new shoes installed before they even finished the engine install

Looks good in her new home...

First off airport landing...you can see I bounced a few times   Still gettin used to her!!
Unlike the ole 140, now I can take off in roughly the same distance it took to get in!! I REALLY like this plane :D

Ya, I'm looking for a used one right now...don't really want to spend $4K on a new one.

Then it'll be an underseat battery and some more baggage space with the FAD baggage mod, or a belly pod...can't decide. There's so many cool mods for cubs, but I really want to keep the weight down and spend the money on Avgas

CC almost always has the best price on Borer's , presumably because of the volume they go thru.. Be careful which STC you use, some are more restrictive than others on pitch, as well as prop clearance.

Pods are cool. Regardless, I would always have an extended baggage, you can use it even if the pods off, it adds way less weight to the airplane, and it keeps things 'inside'. The FA Dodge baggage would be last on my list. The CC one flat floored is awesome, but is best done at recover... The hot ticket is going to be the one Randy is getting STC'd. It is a Carbon fibre 'tub' and flexes enough to pop right in a stock, covered cub, even with the 'dog leg' in stock configuration.
Having said all that, I have an old FAD baggae I removed from a cub long ago. It won't ship well, because it is assembled, but if you are convinced in going FAD, and find yourself down this way you can have it for the taking. It may even be a worthwhile way to go till Randy's gets through the STC process, as we all know how long that can drag on

Take care, Rob

Thanks for the offer, I might just take you up on that. Where are you based?? I have read about the carbon insert as well and like the idea a lot. Only reason I'd go with the FAD is because the fuse was recovered last year and (if everything goes right) won't need a recover for a loooong time!!!

BTW Rob, since you seem to be a knowledgable SCub guy, what do you think of the Sensenich Wood club that can go on the 320??? (drometer STC??). Here are the advantages over the standard and Borer clubs as I see it...

-lighter
-cheaper
-less vibration
-better handling (much less mass for torque/p-factor/spin up/gyroscopic)

I know I won't get the same take-off performance as the borer, but if the woodie is somewhere between the standard and the borer I might be interested based on the other qualities. It seems though, that these props would be more popular if they were great performers...what are the missing parts of this equation??

Re: Just bought me a Supercub!!

Hi Bart,

Wood is good... For the reasons most buy a cub, the Borer is better.

I'm in Yuma. May head to Clam beach in a couple weeks if that's closer to ya.

You can shoot me a PM.

Take care, Rob

Re: Just bought me a Supercub!!

Lovely lovely aircraft! One day, when I settle down somewhere I will have to get me a Supercub. It was the first tailwheel aircraft I flew and it was a love affair from the minute we left the ground.

Enjoy!

Re: Just bought me a Supercub!!

FWIW I just googled it and there's been plenty of discussion on supercub.org about the 80" wood Sensenich and how it compares to the stock 74" sensenich & the 82" macauley borer.
