KCOE Recommendations

Ok,

New member, first post. Flying a Maule MT7-235.

Going to KCOE next week in the Maule. Spending a week with the family at the lake but want to take the opportunity to fly into some forgiving backcountry. Experience wise, i fly out of KRDD and have hit nearly all the norcal strips. Flew a 172 into Benchmark MT 2 years ago without difficulty. I've got the DA thing figured out and will be flying early so as not to disrupt the family vacation.
Current plans:

Cavanaugh bay for my first as I've never landed on anything but asphalt/concrete. After a couple of landings there, and if things go well....

Magee, just northwest of KCOE. Then.........?

Gotta go to Libby to visit a friend and may take the oppoortunity to hit Schafer and/or Meadow Creek

So couple of questions..
1. FBO recommnedations at KCOE
2. Other "forgiving" backcountry airstrips

Re: KCOE Recommendations

Good place to start: http://www.shortfield.com/

There are plenty in south central Idaho and in your Maule, not that long of trip. Good places are Johnson Creek, Moose Creek, Dixie town strip*, Elk City*, Chamberlain Basin, are a few to start with. There are others, I just am having a stupor of thought after a big Sunday dinner. Have fun ask a lot of questions, and if it's hot out, stop by 10:00AM

*restaurants close by.

Re: KCOE Recommendations

Before I go back, I'll resolve whether it's cool to land together on semi-parallel runways as I did last time. The duelling FBO's is something I don't care for, be prepared to be met with follow me vehicles on both sides of the runway. It was busy last time I was there with float planes, commercial, and gapers like me trying to find it for the first time.

Re: KCOE Recommendations

Stop in McCall and pick up the fly idaho book and the Idaho sectional. There are a lot of great places... Go to sillier creek for breakfast. Great strip, very forgiving and plenty long. You can see the other threads as to what else you may find at sulpher. Good luck!

Re: KCOE Recommendations

Ok guys, thanks for the help. Stopped in Mccall but no one home at 0700 so bopped on up to KMSO to meet the folks and then to KCOE. Took the Maule to it's first (and mine) grass strip at Cavanaugh Bay, then Magee. Two days later into Sullivan Lake WA. Two days after that, Meadow Creek and Spotted Bear. Chickened out at Schafer as it was windy and turbulent.
Anyway, the trip of a lifetime and hoping to go back soon and maybe even hit some of the NORCAL strips.......
