King KT76A overhaul?

Does anyone know if the factory (or anyone else) can overhaul a King KT76A transponder. This unit has 2 problems, which may or may not be related:
1) It has twice blown an internal 2 amp fuse.
2) It has twice now failed to reply to ATC radar, and later the same day (after being shut off) started working again.
I took it to an avionics shop after it had experienced both problems once, and he diagnosed & replaced the blown fuse. But told me that there was something (he didn't know what) that caused it. Didn't have any insight on the second problem, as it worked OK when he checked it over after replacing the fuse.
So I don't need to have it just repaired, but completely overhauled (with a warranty). I hate to spend the dough (about $1600) to replace it with new, if I can instead get it overhauled for a reasonable amount.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

The KT76A's with serial # 110,000 or greater were built with updated metering boards that can be fixed easily. The older units cost a grundle to fix if this is related to your problem.

I bought a used unit with 115,000+ serial number for $750 and the thing looked brand new. You will not likely get a full overhaul with warranty from King/Allied Signal for less than that.

Talk to Jeff @ Kings Avionics 801-539-8412 if you like.

They are good/solid units when they work.

Eric,

Not that it makes much difference now. Avionics Master in Nampa Idaho overhauled mine a few years back for $450.00.

However they closed shop about a year ago.

Good luck
