Re: Kitfox ?

Grats splitter, now get 2 or 3 credit cards and burn some gas. Too bad the commies in your state won't let the public buy ethanol free, you could easily save a 1/3 over 100ll!

Re: Kitfox ?

Looks like the gear is a bit wider than standard PA20 gear.
Wings have drooped leading edges & stall fences, and (extended) non-standard tips.
it also has a LH ("seaplane") door.
Wing mod(s) look like Charley Center's, door mod might be Eddie Trimmers.

Unless things have changed, standard gear, standard tail, not stretched. Has the RH seaplane door too.

Re: Kitfox ?

THE BUY

Got to KFTG Friday afternoon. Luckily I had arranged a quick test flight with the owner. Did three Laps, Boinked the first one but the other two were fine. Loved the Airplane.. The owner is a Female ATP who works for United. She has done everything right with this plane.
Overhaul by Penn-Yan . Cylinder/Block heater , ADS-B out ect
So, I now own a 56 Piper Pacer Conversion . The pre Buy went smooth. I randomly picked an I/A off the internet and had visions of a homeless guy in an old smoking Van pulling up. I was way off. I used Rudy Metz . Super thorough and knowledgeable . Turns out He is a Technical Writer for Sierra Nevada Aerospace and He was the owners ground instructor at United ( score!)
I arranged to fly with a CFI Sunday and Monday. That didn't happen due to wind
He has agreed to help me get the bird back home..........if the wind in New Mexico ever dies

So...........heres what I bought

1956 Tri-pacer Conversion

Went out to Platte Valley to see SPDCRAZY,s pacer and ran into a guy selling a set of near new Goodyear 8.5 x 6,s
Good tire for me to start out with.

Now, If I can get a few days of good weather without a windstorm blowing I'm all set.

Oh- Insurance. I had two companies ready to go. The broker s ask about my tailwheel time so I know the policy was submitted to underwriters as a tailwheel. I was quoted a price of 1030 a yaer by both companies. I went to give my Credit Card and asked about the conversion...........................at that point BOTH agents realized the policies had been written for a Tri-Pacer even though tail wheel time was submitted.
I ended up having to pay 1630 a year through BWI

Re: Kitfox ?

Looks like a very nice airplane.
I was gonna make a joke about "needs bigger tires ($$)" but you beat me to it!
You might make sure the airplane already has an STC for the 850's,
if not I think Svenn's Aviation has one.
He holds several STC's for the PA20/22 line.

Svenn’s STC covers both 8:50 X 6 and 26 inch Goodyear tires... I think it’s $250 for the paper but don’t quote me on that...

My Pacer-owning buddy told me they were $250, but I said he also told me the price has gone up.
Actually, I thought $250 was pretty darn reasonable for an STC, even a paper-only one,
but he told me that when you buy several those $250's start adding up.

Re: Kitfox ?

Thanks.

The STC is 260 dollars and does cover 8.5 and 26’s
As soon as I get the plane home I will find my A and P
I will need that info for the STC

Went to buy it today and couldn’t answer who the install was done by

Certified Aircraft so I will have to arrange it with a shop

Did your pacer get left from KFTG today? Think I may have seen it on its way out today. Called for a destination of Las Vegas, NM. Looked really close to the AC in your avatar!

Re: Kitfox ?

Yeah, that was me. Was it our first attempt today of departing front range? We blew the tailwheel tube just as we taxied to the run up area.
Had to get the tug out and drag her back to Mile High Aviation where Bill quickly installed a new tube or our second try when we did get out?
Landed in Las Vegas NM and then down to Truth or Consequences NM where I am tonight ?

Well at least ya got out of there! The weather and wind haven't been real cooperative the past few weeks.
Congrats on the new ride.
